good and american beer don't go in the same sentence - SaskHawkFan
For the most part that's true. If you like micro brews the possibilities are better. |

Uh, Al I think all of my comments do indicate that I understand both finance and hockey. You are making judgments without understanding the heart of what I am saying...and that is if Seabrook won't sign a WORKABLE EXTENSION, then the Hawks can't afford him without getting rid of Crawford AND another good player and sizeable contract. If he will sign a workable extension, then all of this is a MUTE POINT...or didn't you actually read what I said?
For Bowman to help move Sharp, Bickell and/or Versteeg knowing (which he may or may not know) that he can't afford a Seabrook extension for a return similar to the quality of the Saad deal, then he has proved his genius again. Again, if Seabrook wants to finish his career here with a workable deal, then GREAT, end of story! But Bowman has to think outside of the box to succeed in a league where everyone is gunning for him, and none have sympathy for his position! - MexicoHawk

You just said north of $7.5 mil about five posts earlier. Which is it, $6.5 or $7.5?
So you think they said goodbye to Saad with no intention on keeping Seabrook if he asks for a $1.6 mil raise?
I doubt that. - HawkintheD
D, I think you are impugning his word, which none shall do. Agree it's all about realistic demands not a magical number. |

It all comes down to lists...
...some number of clubs a player will, or will not, accept an unconditional trade to. - ArlingtonRob
Yep and then there could be additional language built in..like what time of year a trade can happen without a list. I think that was the case when Mike Richards was traded from Philly. |

Be careful with microbrews these days though, because a lot of them are really just boutique label big brews. Always do your legwork. |

The problem comes in with the term with a RFA like Saad who some think can be the cornerstone of a team...A centerpiece, build around player. Discussed here with John the likely hangup with Saad's deal was term to start...
The term was the issue becasue for the Hawks to go long term they needed no competition..5/6 yrs $4-$4.5 mill...and Saad wasn't going to take a bridge deal because he got both a huge payday and security with a 6 year deal. KIM-Saad's agent knew what was out there, even if as Saad contends he wasn't fully in the loop. - Al
I can believe Saad wasn't up to speed, his agent did his homework and got the kid another $1.5-$2M/year over 6.
And if I was Tyler Toffoli I'd be asking my agent WTF? |

And there lies the new reality in the NHL. Players who would be "core" .....like Saad, are no longer going to take bridge deals.
And, there is no reason for Bowman to get ahead of himself extend Seabrooke and deepen his current hole. What he is trying to do is trade Sharp, Bickell, and Versteeg for Oduya and Kruger......Oduya and Kruger are the hoped for return.....and, because Stan burned time trying to get something extra and failed..teams are now wanting Stan to take back salary. I think we're sort of screwed and the money he wanted to spend on Kruger will be used to sweeten the new deals.

Was thinking that about anyone who signed a bridge deal. Toffoli though, hard to believe that big of a difference between him and Sadd.
Have to wonder what precedent Sadd's contract is setting. |
