Or maybe Kruger's agent told him what happened to Niemi when he went to arbitration. Which brings me to the Saad incident one the Hawks think they got 2 pieces that are going to help this team going forward and two when TT and others reach RFA does this kind of action make a player pause if they want to continue playing for the Hawks. I like it. - BetweenTheDots
I do not think this issue is or will be unique to the Hawks. The NHL is rapidly becoming a two class system - top tier players get too large a share of a finite pie, and rest have to begin considering the reality that if they are not superstars they will be sharing a smaller seat at the salary trough. |
He's played a total of 2 NHL games, Nurse isn't a top pair dman in the NHL and he may or may never be. I think he has a great future but I also thought Cam Barker did before he actually stepped on NHL ice. Each step from Junior to the AHL to the NHL are huge and many can't miss prospects do in fact miss. Let's not write up Nurse's HOF ticket for a few more years. - EnzoD
HYPERBOLE and finality. 2 of Paulr's calling cards on this blog. Did I say he was a HOF or even an All-Star? No, I did not.
Darnell Nurse is 20years old and SHOULD be Edmonton's #1 Defenseman, maybe as soon as this year. As Sandus said, when you have a 30 year old defenseman that might not be within the Salary Cap structure, a return like Darnell Nurse is really just a fantasy. Edmonton probably wouldnt even trade Nurse for Seabrook straight up.
Edmonton would be complete idiots to not trade Nurse for Seabs straight up. He is NOT gonna be their #1 this year, they are talking about leaving him in the AHL to get top pairing minutes. Meanwhile, Ekblad at 18 years old has already established himself. THATS a player you maybe don't trade for Seabrook, but not Nurse. He is NOT a can't miss until he doesn't miss. He is unproven and untested.
I HOPE The Oilers wouldn't trade him for Seabrook, because I don't want him for Seabrook.
At first I didn't care how long these trades went on. I figured "Trust in Stan", but now I want it done so we can put Seabrook to ______ safely to bed. Holy crap cant believe we're talking about trading him. Damnit Stan just do something already I can't even stomach talking about trading a foundation, NOT just part of the core, but the FOUNDATION of what our Blackhawks are.....

No but you made it sound like he would just step right in where Seabrook left off and that's not gonna happen and it may never happen.

If Dano works out the way he's projected and the way he played last year, I'd say they did. |

Yet, Bettman allows this "trick" but when teams who try to win and play tricks with the cap to save space, he punishes them. I still wan to know why the owners aren't complaining about this? F Arizona and everything about that F'n state. - powerenforcer
Bettman also "allowed" the trick that brought the Hawks Vermette, Desjardins and Timmonen, even tho they were right up against the cap.

Fair enough. Since the Hawks are in a cap bind at the moment, what about trading Kane? He frees up $10.5M and would be able to get a king's ransom for him.
That way they would be comfortably able to keep Versteeg, Bickell, and others. Would give them plenty of options, too. |

What trick was that? Every team can go over the cap at the TDL if injuries occur. What Arizona did to get to the cap floor was just a joke, and everyone knows it. Pronger will never step on an ice sheet again in his life. He should not be allowed to be traded. |

Works out well for both teams. CBJ gets their 1LW while the Hawks get a 2C and a young, talented winger on an entry level contract for two more years. CBJ also able to dump a couple one way contracts the Hawks don't mind burying at the Rock if they can't flip them. |

How was that a trick?
Kane was legitimately hurt and replacing his cap hit is well within the rules. The timing happened to work out perfectly, but it was legitimate. Comparing it to trading salaries of retired(injured) players is silly. |

Why does it bother you? AZ will never compete for more than a playoff spot, they are no threat to Chicago in any way, shape or form. |

Why it bothers me (and should bother everyone) is it is a circumventing the cap 180 degrees differently than when teams signed players to those long contracts. If teams are punished for tricks one way, they should be punished for tricks the other way. Plus, why wouldn't Bettman want Arizona to be a competetive team? |

Seabrook along with their other additions make the Oilers a playoff contender. Even without Seabrook, no lottery for them next year and it looks like the Leafs are doing all they can to be a lottery team. - paulr
You are kidding, right? They've got Mark Arcobello, Shawn Matthias, Nick Spaling and Captain Dion. Parade planned for Yonge Street June 15, 2016. |
