given this off the board selection for head coach, does it seem more likely that hextall will do the same at the draft. i'm thinking yes. but maybe not. i have no (frank)ing idea. whatever. |

I REALLY hope he doesn't. The top 10 is pretty stacked, I'd be much more comfortable if he just chose the best skilled player at that point.

Sanheim was a pretty good pick that no one is scratching their heads about anymore. I think Hextall's good so far on that front |

didn't backread but here is an article from 2013 about hakstol being the top nhl coaching prospect....
excerpt from espn article....
Top college coach candidate
Dave Hakstol, North Dakota — He runs the powerhouse North Dakota college hockey program, one that continues to pump out NHL players such as Jonathan Toews, T.J. Oshie, Travis Zajac, Drew Stafford and Matt Greene.
“This guy is really intelligent,” said one NHL source. “I think he’s got a pro mind.”
Hakstol signed a six-year contract in 2012 that would keep him behind the bench in North Dakota through 2017-18 and said his focus is on sustaining his success there.
“I have a high level of respect for the guys who are able to produce successful and sustainable results at the NHL level. At some point in my career if I was able to earn an opportunity to work with a good organization, it would be a consideration,” Hakstol wrote in an email on Monday when asked whether he has NHL interest. “All that being said, I don’t spend much time thinking about hypotheticals. I feel like our entire staff has been around the game long enough to have a real appreciation for what we have here and has a commitment to producing that long-term success and sustainability at UND.”

Anyone know anything about Zane McIntyre? Goalie for UND who was drafted by the Bruins in the 6th round in 2010, no ELC yet. 22 years old and I think he just finished his junior season. I'm unsure of the NCAA signing rules to know if/when he could become a FA if he chose not to sign with Boston. But it could be an interesting idea with his old coach here now and our goalie pipeline not exactly loaded with prospects, on top of Boston having Rask in the NHL and Subban in the farm system. Just a thought. |

It was a new fresh hire which I was all for until I found out he coached Hexys son. This will cause me to be skeptical. Overrall I like the hire, but I like having the nepotism angle as an out plus hextall/hakstol plenty of material there |

you're asking the wrong guy. i'm sure OB can tell you the answer. if i'm a gambling man, i'd bet yes, there's at least one. in the pan-asian league. |

Well, given that Sanheim was the 53rd ranked N.A. skater last year, I'd say so. |

What's your gut on this hire Hammar? Granted I'm just having some fun, but I would have preferred a guy with NHL experience. |

Imho this had absolutely no factor in the decision. Why would it? This is professional sports not town league hockey.
I think a more important factor (but probably still not huge) was how he coached and developed Mr. Toews' son, and Mr. Oshie's son, etc. |

You call complaining and being angry "fun?" And I'm more referring to your constant outlook on here, not just the Hakstol hire. |

No the tallest D-man in the draft I can find is 6'5" but he's not a slow skater. |

At least from outside looking in, it tells me the team is committed to developing its young players, and they wanted a guy who could guide them along.
Maybe not having pro experience is a terrible thing, but its still hockey.

I think it may have been a factor. But more of one where Hextall was able to ask his son his personal opinion of him, something that most scouts/players can't do. But I don't think he hired him just because his son played for him. |

Bettman is thinking of adopting the badger into the coal fire thing, but they may try it at the AHL level first. No word on the san scythe idea. |
