Coburn got some PP time last night, assisted on the stamkos goal, good to see him making some noise with Tampa.

Well there is some truth to that. Coburn's a strange duck. When he's forced to play a bigger role, he flakes. When he's able to play more of a second pairing role, he's more relaxed, and he plays really well.

That's true of any player. If you asked Wayne Simmonds to be a puck carrier to drive possession on a top line, he'd fail miserably. That's not his skill set. When you ask him to be a power forward on a second line and a PP finisher, he flourishes.

Same with Coburn. If you expect him to a top-pair player playing against top competition for 22-26 minutes a night, he'll fail. If you ask him to be a 4/5 guys playing against 2nd/3rd lines playing 18-20 minutes a night, he's solid.

Although, for some people, he was an easy scapegoat, so there's an ignorant section of the fan base that would never like him no matter what he did. He became the new Matt Carle.

If he has a strong enough partner, he can be a really solid 2-3 guy. Coburn usually has issues when he's asked to be the alpha dog on a top pair. Give him a guy like Timonen in his prime and he can play 20-25 a night againt top competition and he's fine. But put him with a mediocre guy and ask him to anchor things, and he tries to do too much and his play suffers.

Absolutely and I have to admit that I've used him as a scapegoat multiple times in the past. And it wasn't warrented, cuz like you said, we weren't using him in the right role for his skillset.

Doesn't look all that impressive. Maybe it's the angle.

Coburn was exactly what you described since his first full season as a Flyer. The problem with this season is, he didn't have the right partner. You can debate that he didn't have Timonen and Timonen made him but he was also solid next to Grossmann against Malkin in the 2012 playoffs. Coburn is a solid top pair guy but I suppose it depends on the chemistry he has with the guy next to him.

I was more impressed with how Morin stood him up and dropped him, but Morin's body barely moved.. lol The kid must have some core strength.

He hit him, knocked him off his feet, took out another player and ended up on his head.

Thats pretty impressive to me.

Simple conjecture and hyperbole. We're just here to state the facts.

Meh...was a clean hit but it was a high hit and the guy was somewhat off balance already due to his moves which is why the guy went down. The rest is just collateral damage.

I'm sure there are more impressive hits of his out there.
