I understand the disappointment/anger in hiring him. Hell, I was hoping for a coach with more experience than Berube, and they hire a coach with less experience. But I like what I've read about him.
Not much we (fans) can do at this point but to hope he can make the transition. - Streit2ThePoint
Exactly. Nothing we can do about it, and I'm fine waiting to judge him on what he actually does. Every coach has to start somewhere; every coach has to get that first NHL game under his belt. Hakstol sounds promising.

Only other choice is to find a new team to follow..........I like the hire & want to see how it goes.
At this point, given the stated direction of the team, and the record that Hakstol has built at UND, I'm very encouraged by the hire.
The guy has a great track record of developing and wining at the same time. Granted it's at a lower level, but his work has been outstanding in it's consistency and success rate.
It's a bold, outside the box move for sure, but Hakstol seems to be a smart and highly motivated guy, who has some great ideas. - Jsaquella
This is exactly how I see it too. Well said
I'm not over the top excited as I wanted Babcock of coarse (I mean who didn't?) but I am very encouraged by the hire. The developing trait he seems to have will be very key for the future of this team I think.

That was the game at the WFC. There was a center ice face off with 9 seconds to go. I said to my buddy... "you know this is going to be a 3 over time game, right?" With the jinx in, Minnesota scored, just like that.

Exactly. I'm more than willing to give Hexy and Haksy (can that be a thing now?) time to prove themselves and the rope to hang themselves with. - wolfhounds
Rich Hofmann @TheIdleRich
Dave Hakstol's nickname is apparently Hak, which is better than Haxy, which would have been a nightmare. Important stuff first.
Not sure about that. Who would have been doom and gloom had they hired Babcock? - PLindbergh31
Ok well, maybe not Babcock, the cream of the coaching crop. Although there might have been grumbling here and there about giving up the 3rd to get him. Maybe?
Way to trash my rant before it even really had a chance to get going.

I even spelled the rhyming nickname wrong. I'm just going to leave now.

I didn't trash your rant. I simply posed a question. I guess I shouldn't set my expectations high and want the Flyers to be players for top coaches or players when they hit the market.

I was joking. And the Flyers almost always go after the big names when they hit the market. That's one of the great things about this franchise - they go for it, sometimes to their detriment.
I think everybody here would have loved to have Babcock as coach, no doubt about it. We'd have all felt pretty good, but he's no guarantee of a Stanley Cup or anything. And the Flyers, like the Red Wings, had a long stretch of consecutive playoff appearances under their belts with no Cup to show for their efforts.
Could Babcock have made the team better? Absolutely. But he's not going to be coaching for us, so I have to give Hexy and Hakstol the benefit of the doubt and believe they can build a winner.
I actually like that the organization appears to be getting a handle on the loose lips. I don't want a decision of this nature to be media driven or fan driven. I don't want rumors out there to be evaluated for advance notice of the response of anyone. I want them to make a business/hockey decision based on the best information available. - bodiva88
I agree.
I strongly dislike the Devils but there some very good things about the way they run their organization and keeping things close to the vest is one of them. Nothing leaked out of that organization and there were rarely, if ever, media circuses due to speculation.
Playing style:
"I don’t know if I can sum it up in one word. I can tell you the way I approach my business on a daily basis is in a very direct manner. I think expectations are quite simple of myself, of my staff and our players. Maybe to sum up in one word, accountability to one another, to our organization. In terms of style of play, the game is so fast. When you see games today, it’s played at such a high speed. You’ve got to be as good a team without the puck, you’ve got to work and play fast without the puck and with good structure. It’s about transition. But you’ve got to have the puck, you’ve got to get the puck in order to be able to transition up ice. You’re going to see with me an expectation that our defensemen are involved in an awful lot of our play in terms of our play with the puck. I think it’s essential both getting up the ice as well as in the zone. - flyer_nutter

How do we know the Flyers didn't get the next best future coach on the market?

Word on the street is that Kimmo isn't happy about his usage according to Trollbury and Jonesy.
Both believe JQ is making a mistake. - MBFlyerfan
I agree -- Kimmo was a little slow in his first few games in the regular season and in the playoffs, and while I agree that he isn't the player he was, Quenneville seemed to have him on a pretty short leash, especially considering how much experience he has
Not saying that you have to play him, or that he has a ton left in the tank. But I do think it's fair to say that the leash wasn't long
