7 Frozen Fours coming away empty every time. Hard to believe. - PLindbergh31
Has anyone broken down the Championships Hakstol has won? Developing players is great but do we want to develop forever with no championship success to show for it?
This is a serious question. |

I tend to form my own opinions.
Guess which coach has won the most games over the past 11 years? Guess which coach has made the NCAA tourney every year he's coached? Guess which coach has made the Frozen Four 7 times in 11 years? Guess which NCAA coach has a career low season winning % of .605%?
The guy the Flyers hired. I purposely wait all day to comment. I wanted to do more homework. Everything I read about the guy is full of praise and admiration. His former players love him. He's won at an amazing rate. The biggest concern is the adjustment from dealing with college kids to professional players. - Jsaquella
All your study was wasted. Winning just said it was a great hire. Doom is upon us.

0 for 7...yeah i guess...but at the same time look at the flyers and their cup appearances going 0 for 6 and who those opponents were and the flyers injury situations. that's just how the chips fell.
i don't know anything about those 7 appearances or pretend to know. in a one and done...poop happens. you think the US beats Russia more than once if they play that miracle game 10 times? i doubt it.
i think he'll get all the support he needs to succeed here, and again, it's not like he was an assistant for an intramural floor hockey team at a D3 school. he was the head guy at a top program for a decade. i think that means something. |

NCAA hockey analyst Dave Starman called Hakstol's system pace-based and said the focus is on controlling the center lane of the ice.
"His teams go at the net, shoot for rebounds, make plays, and really emphasize the defense being an active part of the offense," Starman said. "His use of weak side 'D's to pinch and extend plays is a huge component to their offensive success, and defensive as well as they don't retreat and regroup as much as other teams did."

"I remember once him telling me I was smart enough to take a couple chances; he thought I was being a little too defensive," Oshie said. "That was a different thing to hear for me for sure, but there is still a very good sound structure underneath that." |

I don't know the details surrounding 0 for 7, but seems impossible to fathom having a team good enough to get their 7 times in an 11 year period with players like Parise, Toews, Zajac etc and not closing the deal once. |

It's not hard to fathom. It's a single elimination tournament, where one bounce sends you home.
Jack Parker is regarded as the greatest NCAA coach ever, in 40 years he won just 3 national titles. |

Schenn, I'd agree, but I think Grossmann's smart enough to play in a fast-paced system. Skilled enough? That's a good question -- his passing is questionable

Winning Championships comes down to players and their performance far more than coaching. The fact that he has his team in the hunt so many times, shows that one, at the college level they recruited good players, and that he has his team prepared, and puts them in a position to win.

Yes, but we've had problems finding a good group on defense for a number of seasons now. A Coach when highered gets what he gets. |

This kid is going UFA, supposedly:
http://www.eliteprospects.../player.php?player=106295 - Tomahawk
I've read about him in the past few weeks but seen no hint of where he might want to go -- surprising he doesn't stick with the Jackets; from what I see/read, they have at least one spot available, considering they moved Wiesniewski (sp)

As soon as I read that blurb, I figured that would get more attention than the overall record, numerous division and conference titles and personal honors.
He might fall on his face. Who knows? Bob Johnson & Herb Brooks were successful in moving to the NHL. Ned Harkness was not. It's not like they hired a guy selling beer to coach the team. |

You might not have been here when I posted this, but I told my coworker the flyers hired the coach from UND and his eyes lit up. He said we got a great guy.
I can't wait to see what he can do for the Flyers once he solves the personnel issues |

His one team outshot the oopponent 40-20 and lost the championship game. Other time he lost with .6 seconds left. Lol |
