Maybe Hexy didn't think Babcock was the right guy for this job - PhillySportsGuy
He was never coming here -- he's either going to a team closer to winning than the Flyers, or a team at the absolute bottom, or staying in Detroit
I still think, at the end of the day, it's Toronto

Fair enough. Being totally honest no one, including Hextall knows how this guy is going to transition to the NHL game. He's an absolute unknown quantity.
And you know what, the fact he made 7, count them 7 trips to the Frozen 4, and never won once I find pretty alarming. - PLindbergh31
you, alarmed ?? i don't believe that for one second. |

That's exactly how it looks. And maybe he's not. All I'm saying is where is the harm in sitting down and talking to the guy. |

I think fans have a reason to have concerns when you point this out. On one hand, he's Hextall's friend, on the other, has he had big success (I'm really asking)? - SuperSchennBros

This isn't just going outside the box. This is going off the god damn continent to make this decision. This is the type of decision that if it fails, it gets you fired.
I feel like this is comparable to the hiring of John Idzik by the Jets. Everyone in the know said that guy would be in over his head. They were right. Seems most teams don't think highly of going this route which is why it hasn't happened in 33 years. - Flyers1218
why not give the guy a (frank)ing shot first |

How do you explain him getting to the Frozen 4 seven times and not coming away with a single Title?
I'm guessing he didn't have much talent, had teams that overachieved and then were overwhelmed by far superior talent. How am I doing? |

Maybe there were smoke signals sent that said "don't bother, for one/some/many reason's I'm not interested in/able to take the position" |

FF16 is my hero! Anytime things got out of control on here, he'd sum things up in one most to simmer things down. Good for him for saying "Enough is enough" and walking away. |

And really, why would you leave Detroit to come to Philadelphia?
There's no good reason to do that -- the Flyers' short- and intermediate term is no better than Detroit's

He thought it was funny. He thinks he's a standup comic on Twitter sometimes too. - PhillySportsGuy
Sielski is the best kind of smug bumhole writer who, the one time they are right, they won't shut up about it, but they are completely thin skinned and defensive when they are wrong (which Sielski is almost all of the time).
Even worse than that though? I'm guessing if you called Sielski a smug bumhole, he'd take it as a (frank)ing compliment.
They should put him and Marcus Hayes on the slowboat to writing elsewhere. |

I read one of them they outshot Denver 45-24.
Lots of things can happen when it's one and done. Like 9-7 teams winning Super Bowls |

If a guy like Babcock isn't interested in coaching the Flyers, but he's entertaining offers from the Sabres, Sharks, Leafs etc..... Do you find that concerning? |

I'm sure they got in touch somehow or spoke through agents.
I get the feeling Hexy didn't want a personality like Babcock anyway. |

Well, fortunately for Hakstol, the NHL playoffs don't consist of one game, winner take all series. This is unlike the Frozen Four.
Usually playoff series are best of 7 games. Your experience may vary. |

No, because the power structure of those front offices are different.
Especially the Leafs. Have they even hired a GM yet? I bet Babcock would LOVE more GM like responsibilities.

Nope. Babcock already stated he's not interested in being a General Manager. |

I can't wait until the first loss in the pre-season to be on here! Better yet, God help us if they lose in that July scrimmage to the Caps rookies! |

I do hate Marcus Hayes too. What sport does he even cover? He knows nothing about the four philly teams.
Seilski makes the same dumb jokes then does the "my column" at the end. Who the (frank) encourages this. It's like he thinks he's Bill Simmons but unsuccessful and not clever. |

I don't, because those the Sabres job is one where you can only go up, the Sharks are closer to winning right now, and the Leafs, while brutal and need years to rebuild, if you win there you are a legend for as long as you live
The Flyers aren't guaranteed to break through with this core -- they have nice pieces, but need more. And the pieces they need are the trickiest for all teams to find
There are a lot of teams like the Flyers, who have some good pieces and need some more. You don't leave your team to come to another team like that |
