For the record:
1. I have no effing clue who Dave Hakstol is
2. I have no effing clue what kind of system he runs
3. I don't recall watching one UND game over the last few years
4. I have no idea if this will work or not

Clearly this move is an abject failure. I'd like to see him fired before the draft. I mean, going out and getting the best players and or coaches money can buy has worked so well since just after May 1975. There should be no reason whatsoever to go outside the box for a change.
 - hockeylover
This isn't just going outside the box. This is going off the god damn continent to make this decision. This is the type of decision that if it fails, it gets you fired.
I feel like this is comparable to the hiring of John Idzik by the Jets. Everyone in the know said that guy would be in over his head. They were right. Seems most teams don't think highly of going this route which is why it hasn't happened in 33 years. |

Now that the News of the day has set in, what is the overall thought of the new bench boss? Admittingly, I don't know anything about him and I'm 100% no matter what I say, it's going to sound like I'm bashing the signing.
My main concern is ended up in the same place we were at yesterday 2 years from now because we experimenting with another Coach so soon after we just fired a guy with little Head Coaching experience. I didn't like Berube but he did work his way up through the ranks and when the first thing you hear of the new higher is "He Coached my son" Says Flyers GM Ron Hextall, it's hard not to be critical.
From what little information I gather before work, Dave Hakstol has a lot of regular season wins with the North Dakota. I'm not sure if he's won and championships of any kind, so if I'm off base in anyway, please tell me.
It's just interesting going in this direction (One nobody saw coming) but if he has somewhere near the same kind of successes as let's say Bob Boughner who led the Windsor Spitfires to 2 memorial cups in a row and than tried the NHL level with Columbus, I can understand Hakstol being on the radar. |

maybe he told them he wasn't interested in coming here
kind of a two-way street on these things - Crimsoninja
it seems like hextall wasn't interested in babs. he's apparently twice been rebuffed by hakstol. that tells you he had his eye on him for awhile and there's a good chance he knew half way through the season he dump ba ba rooby. |

Not buying that. When a person is a free agent and there are only a few openings, why would you eliminate one of the destinations before the process even started? People seem to think Babcock is looking for a big pay day.... Would it make sense for him to eliminate a team that could offer him big money? I don't believe that for a second. - PLindbergh31

No sense in arguing with people here. It's the Flyers did everything right and perfect. They don't make mistakes. This is a great decision even though people like Bobby Mack are confused. You are not allowed to question any decision ever. It's 1984 every year in here. - Flyers1218

I think hakstol should strip the captaincies on the team and go into camp with a clean slate. Let the players show him whose going to push his message. Clean slate - Just5
That's a few steps too far -- you've got a former Hart Trophy finalist who makes $8.5 million per year, the captain of the Czech World Championship team and a top 5 scorer who needs an extension, and the captain of the Swiss National team on your roster, all of whom are closing in on 8-10 years of NHL service
While you have...zero NHL experience. None
There are some fights you pick. Some fights you don't.
That's a fight you don't pick |

I think this is the most sensible mindset to have but with this said, we'll see what happens. I think I was hoping for a more familiar NHL Coach with experience at both the NHL and/or AHL level. I've always known Hextall is all about developing young players, I just wasn't aware apart of his master plan was to develop Coaches as well, who comes highly recommended by his kid.
I joke of course. |

Absolutely. But guess what? Hextall knows that. So, let's just sit back and see what happens. |

Fair enough. Being totally honest no one, including Hextall knows how this guy is going to transition to the NHL game. He's an absolute unknown quantity.
And you know what, the fact he made 7, count them 7 trips to the Frozen 4, and never won once I find pretty alarming. |

I think fans have a reason to have concerns when you point this out. On one hand, he's Hextall's friend, on the other, has he had big success (I'm really asking)? |
