Anything happen today? What? - AllInForFlyers
hahahahahaha not too much out of the ordinary. If you back read you'll see
-arguments on the validity of advanced stats
-how rinaldo isn't an nhl player
-the "big 3" albatross contracts
-how we need to trade grossman, schenn
-how our d prospects will all be busts
-how we're wasting g, jake, and mason's primes
-the lack of forward prospects
So no... nothing new

I'm going to have to say I'm indifferent. Even though I watch my share of the NCAA I can't say I pay a lick of attention to coaching unless they're yelling at someone. |

I mean competing with the Oilers, Sharks, and Sabres is pretty tough. Odds were certainly stacked against them. - PLindbergh31
So, you do know there is human element involved here. Maybe he doesnt wanna be on the East coast. Maybe he want more say then the Flyers are willing to give him. Maybe the Flyers wanna continue with a patient approach and he wants to take the next step now.

For fans like myself who think there is more development from Coots and B. Schenn, the hire is encouraging. I don't know if it will work out, but I have to believe Murray will be behind the bench with Hakstol. Also, gotta think Mullen isn't going anywhere.
Maybe for Hexy's final act of defiance toward the fan base, Lawson Crouse at #7? - ravishingone

THANK YOU. Ya know... he was an ncaa coach... many might have failed at making the jump prior to his hiring here.... an ya know what? there might be 2 or 3 seasons that (frank)ing suck. But i'll be happy as long as we see progress in our coach, players, and organization as a whole. Hexy is the captain of this boat, and it may sound ignorant/ naïve, but you gotta trust your captain. Everyone is listing reasons why we shouldn't have hired hackstol, and guess what.... I'm sure hextall (frank)ing thought about every single one of those reasons and then some before he hired him. And that just goes to show that hextall see's more positives than negatives, and he feels hackstol will make a good transition. With all the nhl proven coaches that are/could be available, do you honestly think hexy is gonna take some wild (frank)ing leap of faith for a coach he thinks is probably more likely to not pan out? I'll answer this for you. (frank) no he wouldn't. He clearly sees something in hackstol that none of us have any clue about, and probably will never have a clue about. How many times does hexy have to come out and say this is a LONG TERM PLAN. He's not hiring a coach for a season or two that can motivate his players to play harder. He's hiring a coach that does what I just mentioned, but also can work well with young guys, and can help develop our young guys, help our young guys with their transitions. Not sure how he'll handle guys like vinny, streit, or veteran guys, but I'm truly not worried. hexy knows what he's doing. have some faith people. - benjichronic
Maybe Hextall knows what he is doing, maybe he doesn't. He made some shrewd trades. He absolutely blew the Hartnell trade. What scares me about him is that I feel like he's trying to prove how smart he is by going outside the box. We will find out. Love it or hate it, things are definitely different in Flyerland

I'm pretty sure I read that Babcock said he's a hockey coach, and doesn't want to be a GM. I think that is out there. If not, I apologize. You know what, if I'm in a business any type of business..... And I need a position filled, the top guy in that field is available.... I'm at the very least interviewing that guy. Pretty routine practice. |

HA!
My friend, as soon as I said, "Who?!" when I saw the hire, it was a given that we'd see every single one of the above. I'd be supremely disappointed if they weren't within the first 15 posts

The point is that you are assuming the Flyers flat out had no interest. They didnt touch base. You dont know that.
Also, Babcock is not a Stanley Cup lock. I wanna see what Hakstol can do. I think he did an incredible job with ND. I know he has a track record for developing young players. I am excited to see different stuff.

No sense in arguing with people here. It's the Flyers did everything right and perfect. They don't make mistakes. This is a great decision even though people like Bobby Mack are confused. You are not allowed to question any decision ever. It's 1984 every year in here. |

For the record:
1. I have no effing clue who Dave Hakstol is
2. I have no effing clue what kind of system he runs
3. I don't recall watching one UND game over the last few years
4. I have no idea if this will work or not
Therefore: I have no real opinion. Just gotta wait and wee |

Everyone just assumes that guys we have can't be moved. Guys like Vinny, Umberger, Schenn, Grossmann, MacDonald. But hell Hextall could come out at the draft and swing some deals. People think we need vets on d to help the young players. Hextall might think skills more important then vet presence.
I think there could be quite a few moves this offseason as you see him start to shape the roster to his and the coaches liking. A guy like Martel could maybe make the 4th line because of his speed and tenacity even though he is on the smaller side.
We just have to wait to see the plan. But this isn't a throw a lot of money type offseason. I think the fix is by moving players that don't fit and finding ones that do. |

It was reported everywhere the Flyers never submitted the paperwork to talk to Babcock. Because he is currently under contract to the Red Wings, teams had to request formal interviews. That never happened.
I never said he's a lock. There is no such thing, but hiring a guy with zero NHL track record can certainly be questioned.

Clearly this move is an abject failure. I'd like to see him fired before the draft. I mean, going out and getting the best players and or coaches money can buy has worked so well since just after May 1975. There should be no reason whatsoever to go outside the box for a change.

Not buying that. When a person is a free agent and there are only a few openings, why would you eliminate one of the destinations before the process even started? People seem to think Babcock is looking for a big pay day.... Would it make sense for him to eliminate a team that could offer him big money? I don't believe that for a second. |

I think hakstol should strip the captaincies on the team and go into camp with a clean slate. Let the players show him whose going to push his message. Clean slate |
