Let's face it Hammar. If they hired Sum Dum Fuk out of the JHA (Japan Hockey Association) there would be a faction who would be like....

I like the move.
It shows a change in thinking and that Hextall is running the show. Also if you watched any ND games his team plays a fast game. Yes I know now people will say that "Well we don't have fast players". I think that is going to change. We finally have some good dmen coming along and there will be changes in the offseason. Watching the lightening and seeing Tyler Johnson do what he does had me thinking that maybe Martel comes along as that guy. I think you see Hextall reshaping the culture of the Flyers. I am excited to see this change and will give it time to take place. This isn't a one year project. |

No, that's silly. You should hate the hire before the man's even met the team or coached a single game. Anything less is a disappointment. - wolfhounds
It's silly to have blind faith and not be curious how they came to this decision with so many traditional options available. Just because I hate the move doesn't mean I won't support him or don't want him to do well. I'm just afraid he's going to be in over his head. |

I like the hire. Despite the hextall kid issue.
Everything I'm seeing about this guy
Bye bye grossman, schenn, and gudas it was nice knowing you.
He seems to get that there is little value in shot blocking and porch clearing on the back end.
Puck retrieval will reign supreme. Dmen need to retrieve the puck and that's 1, 2, 3 in importance.
I'm happy. It's a fresh direction, fresh ideas, and a coach that will be worried about growing a program maybe more than polishing a resume.
Go flyers. |

Besides under Hakstol, can someone please list the levels of hockey where Jonathan Toews never won a Championship.
Thanks in advance. - PLindbergh31
Do you have kids? If not, that's a good thing, because if they failed for a second at anything, you might go all Great Santini on them.

It is impossible. No move is going to please everyone. I'm not for just sitting here and bashing the move for no reason. I felt there were better options out there. Doesn't mean they were going to get what they targeted, but I'm unhappy if the Flyers really did make him their number 1 target. That said, I think Babcock was their number 1 choice and he told them no. |

THANK YOU. Ya know... he was an ncaa coach... many might have failed at making the jump prior to his hiring here.... an ya know what? there might be 2 or 3 seasons that (frank)ing suck. But i'll be happy as long as we see progress in our coach, players, and organization as a whole. Hexy is the captain of this boat, and it may sound ignorant/ naïve, but you gotta trust your captain. Everyone is listing reasons why we shouldn't have hired hackstol, and guess what.... I'm sure hextall (frank)ing thought about every single one of those reasons and then some before he hired him. And that just goes to show that hextall see's more positives than negatives, and he feels hackstol will make a good transition. With all the nhl proven coaches that are/could be available, do you honestly think hexy is gonna take some wild (frank)ing leap of faith for a coach he thinks is probably more likely to not pan out? I'll answer this for you. (frank) no he wouldn't. He clearly sees something in hackstol that none of us have any clue about, and probably will never have a clue about. How many times does hexy have to come out and say this is a LONG TERM PLAN. He's not hiring a coach for a season or two that can motivate his players to play harder. He's hiring a coach that does what I just mentioned, but also can work well with young guys, and can help develop our young guys, help our young guys with their transitions. Not sure how he'll handle guys like vinny, streit, or veteran guys, but I'm truly not worried. hexy knows what he's doing. have some faith people. |
