If your current job doesn't have you in the front office of an NHL team you're in the wrong profession, sir.

Could be said about everyone in this room, no? I respect the opinions of the people who like the move. Doesn't mean I agree with them. My opinion is there are too many factors that cause coaches going from college ranks to the pros to be unsuccessful. Some of them in a crash and burn type manner. Look at Chip this offseason, he was just throwing darts. He's lost. Coaches from the OHL and QMJHL are better prepared to be pro coaches.

Id like to see the Jets QB's with a coach that can actually develop them. I don't feel Sanchez or Geno would have been that bad, but Rex essentially destroyed their careers bc he was clueless offensively. As were the people he brought in on that side of the ball.

The Mets are not that far off. Could be in the next year or two. Thing with them is that if they get in they can outpitch any team in any length series, including the Nats. But they hit like a bad high school JV team so it won't matter.

- Flyers1218

When they get Wright and the catcher back the hitting will improve. Also going to get some pretty decent bullpen arms back. The Mets have a solid team I believe. The thing is I can understand why a fan would have that disaster will strike at any minute fear in them.

I actually like him. He throws legit like an 8 year old girl, but he's a good guy. And he's starting to hit the ball. I can live with him. I'm going to go nuts when they trade Syndergaard (who is Matt Harvey before Harvey got hurt) ++ for Tulo.
- Flyers1218

I can't wait for them to do that then have Tulo become an injured shell of himself

didn't know much about him prior to this hire, but he's helped develop some great talent at UND (Toews, Parise, etc.)

i think my favorite part about this hire is that it's not a retread for retread's sake. it would have been real easy to bring a guy like Dineen, Carlyle, or another guy who has "experience." i'm more interested in someone who has new, creative ways to deploy talent in the NHL, than hiring someone who's merit lies in that they've successfully or unsuccessfully did at the NHL level in the past.

If the Flyers goal is to develop their young talent, this seems like a good gamble. I think if you pair Hakstol with Terry Murray as associate coach; you have a good tandem of developmental success (at the collegiate level) with an experienced NHL coach who knows some of these kids well from coaching them in the AHL.

Its without a doubt a risky hire. That's probably why there hasn't been this kind of coaching hire since 1982. From what I've read (which has been minimal at this moment) he coaches more of an NHL level with the kids. And he has helped develop some very good players in the NHL.

I'll go into the season optimistic. See what he can do with the team.

Relax everyone, first Hartnell and now this. Obviously Hexys plan to tank for better draft picks.

No, that's silly. You should hate the hire before the man's even met the team or coached a single game. Anything less is a disappointment.

Its a ballsy move. If it works out, Hexy looks like a genius. If Hakstol fails miserably within the first year, Hexy may not get a chance to name another head coach. I really thought he would have went the CHL or AHL route first, but the argument the Flyers never do anything outside the box just went up in flames with this hire.

I understand the disappointment/anger in hiring him. Hell, I was hoping for a coach with more experience than Berube, and they hire a coach with less experience. But I like what I've read about him.

Not much we (fans) can do at this point but to hope he can make the transition.

Let's face it Hammar. If they hired Sum Dum Fuk out of the JHA (Japan Hockey Association) there would be a faction who would be like....

He'd probably be good at advanced stats, so I'm sure some would be happy, yes.
