Funny how people who seem to be on board with this hire, never mentioned Hakstol in any of their posts prior. Interesting, very interesting. - PLindbergh31
Any way you look at it, this is much better than the way they brought Berube in. I don't think anyone could really be much worse than Berube so we have that going for us.

i'm not enamored with babcock and couldn't give a (frank) that he's not here. in fact, i'm glad he's not because it would just ratchet up the pressure on a team that's not ready to contend. it's going to take a few years regardless of who's running the bench.
i'd ge good with murray rejoining the club. - hammarby31
I agree about Babcock. The more I watched how he has handled this whole process, the more I was turned off by him. Good coach for sure, but the expectations plus his ego did not have me feeling like he was the best choice.
I personally was hoping for Blashill or Dineen. I was open to a handful of other coaches, but in all honesty I really don't have a clue about what individual coaches bring. The aspect I believed was the most important is having a coach that can handle developing and trusting young players.

So, there are two options: be on board or complain about it?
I don't think anyone's hailing the guy as a savior. But there's middle ground where you can give the guy a chance before forming an opinion. |

Ill ask again of you this time. Do you honestly believe that because he coached Brett Hextall that it has any bearing on this hire? Really? - MBFlyerfan
Why was Brett Hextall signed to a minor league deal? If our new Coach Coached Ron Hextall's son, this just tells me this is a guy Ron has seen a lot of. Was anyone else considered? Is this a favor to a friend? Does he have what it takes to evaluate Pro talent at this level? |

I just hope this guy can command the attention of the locker room. Not that we have knuckleheads on the team, I just want the players to buy in to the new guy.
Sorry if this was already brought up. Saw there were 300 comments and wanted to chime in before I went back to work. |

So, guy's been on the job for 3 hours. What we've learned:
- he's a loser
- he's possibly a racist if he trades a player (which apparently, he can do)
- he only got hired because he coached the GM's son
- his name sounds like the GM's |

didn't backread but here is an article from 2013 about hakstol being the top nhl coaching prospect....
excerpt from espn article....
Top college coach candidate
Dave Hakstol, North Dakota — He runs the powerhouse North Dakota college hockey program, one that continues to pump out NHL players such as Jonathan Toews, T.J. Oshie, Travis Zajac, Drew Stafford and Matt Greene.
“This guy is really intelligent,” said one NHL source. “I think he’s got a pro mind.”
Hakstol signed a six-year contract in 2012 that would keep him behind the bench in North Dakota through 2017-18 and said his focus is on sustaining his success there.
“I have a high level of respect for the guys who are able to produce successful and sustainable results at the NHL level. At some point in my career if I was able to earn an opportunity to work with a good organization, it would be a consideration,” Hakstol wrote in an email on Monday when asked whether he has NHL interest. “All that being said, I don’t spend much time thinking about hypotheticals. I feel like our entire staff has been around the game long enough to have a real appreciation for what we have here and has a commitment to producing that long-term success and sustainability at UND.” - hogweed
he could be the newer, thinner and improved scottie bowman, for all i know, but this came from out of left field. acting like the fact he never coached in the nhl is no big deal is naive and acting like this guy is doomed to fail is not fair either. i just wish they went with a more sure bet.

I'm gonna guess/hope this guy knows the difference between coaching 18 year olds and coaching 30 year olds.
I'm also gonna guess the Flyers are gonna provide this guy with some support, in the form of one or multiple NHL assistants who have been around the block. And by happenstance, the Flyers have one of those laying around who doesn't want to coach at the AHL level anymore, but would be interested in an assistant's job (i.e.--Terry Murray). |

Well all NHL coaches were newbies. They came from college, AHL, etc. I really don't have anything else to say. I know absolutely nothing about him. |
