He's been a minus player every year of his career except the 18 games he played as a rookie. Not as big a defensive stalwart as I once heard.

He's worth every penny at 6 million. There aren't to many players that play a complete, 200 foot game as good as him.

he is if it's for 6 or 7 years.

This is IF we move Kessel and Phaneuf, and Bozak.

RoR is a much better influence and example for a young group, and he's someone you can make Captain and not be embarrassed about it (no rush though - maybe give it to Robidas next year so you have a Captain, but aren't committed to anybody long term)

If this is a multi year rebuild, then Cap shouldn't be an issue anyway for 2-3 years, and O'Rielly is a good guy to take pressure off other C's.

Time and place, it's free agency. RFA's are under team control. Slightly above average players that hold out like he did aren't worth building around.
