So we're selectively giving Shanny credit for the good moves and blaming nonis for the bad ones? - mykokes
Not really being that selective. The Santorelli signing came after Shanahan came in, and hired Dubas and co, and was pretty different than previous signings. |

My thoughts still are:
Kessel to Calgary for Bennett + Mason McDonald + 2nd round pick 2015
Phaneuf to Florida Panthers for Petrovic + 2nd round pick 2015

I'm sure Nonis did a lot of the leg work, but he still had the angry Irish clout of Burke.
Look at the quality of trades after Burke left, and before Shanny got here. - Feeling Glucky?
100% ok with the Bernier trade

I have a theory:
Nonis was forced by upper management into making (bad) decisions so the Leafs hopefully make the playoffs.
Now, Shannahan has the green light from upper management to blow it up. Nonis never had the chance, but now he can go on with a "real" building phase. - Pecafan Fan
This is possible too. |

Still don't get it.
Oh, you think the Leafs will pick Bittner with the pick they got.
I'm hoping they somehow get Anthony Beauvillier instead. - mykokes

On September 25, 2006, the Red Wings named Yzerman a team vice president and alternate governor.

100% ok with the Bernier trade - Big_Lightnin
It's a decent trade, but not one that was needed, or made the team significantly better.
I like Bernier, and think he's better than Reimer... But not so much better that we needed to give up assets for him, and pay more cap wise. |

Kadri is fine, anybody who thought he wouldn't be Mike Ribeiro 2.0 were deluding themselves. That kind of PP heavy 2nd line centre that is kind of a douche. Goat...man, wonder what they do with him next season. He's AHL level defensively already, but he sucks so much balls offensively he might just fall off the map. Hope he does another year in the Q as a 20 year old and murders everyone for his own confidence. - AdamFrench
I like how TSN now has the Goat tracker. |

What assets? A 2nd round pick? Do you think we could get a #1 goalie with that 2nd round pick? I'm not saying that the 2nd rounder for Bolland made sense, or the huge run around to get our own 2nd round pick a few years ago made sense....but I think it was a solid hockey deal. |

"Assets"
They got him for so little because of the cap retention. LA had no room. Retaining cap on that deal was what made it possible. |

to be honest, when bernier was traded to toronto, most (90%) on here were shouting for reimer to be traded, since bernier was a future HOF goalie in their minds.. (only reason him not winning a few Vezinas in the last years was Quick being preferred by LA Kings coaches.)

19G 45 pts for $1M.
Significantly better numbers than Santorelli on similar role.
Not sure how that sucks. Sucked so bad he earned $3M + per deal |

This is interesting. I hated the timing of the Phaneuf extension last Christmas - just so they could put it on the 24/7 finale. You gotta wonder if that was upper management meddling?? |
