Let's be honest: why?

They've got cap guys, they've got legal guys... Hunter just needs to be a hockey guy, and have the other guys help him out with the finer details.

Not that they'd be that much more complicated than what he's dealt with in the CHL.

And it's not like he's a foreigner to scouting... But even if he was, the Leafs have plenty of pro scouts.

End of the day he just needs to be a mouthpiece/salesperson.

All should be fired. I just dont want shanahan running the show when he doesnt know WTF he is doing.

Give him a chance. I'm not.sold on him yet either, but Yzerman did well for a guy with little experience. Hopefully we have the same luck

I honestly dont believe the leafs will do a full rebuild.
However, even if you are, you still need a GM to make trades and do contracts. Nonis can still go to hunter to inquire about prospects.
I dont believe phil will be traded just yet.

- Fakepartofme

I don't want Nonis to be our GM, because he seems to nebbish to push other GMs in negotiations. That's what why Burke killed it in trades, and Nonis has had to retain salary and give up picks in practically every deal.

Which is why I think Shanahan, Hunter, or Dubas was heavily involved with the Nashville trade, with Nonis being more of a middle man.

It's a long shot, but if the right deal comes along.
Any team with a true top centre that can add Kessel will become better. Kessel would be like adding p Kane to Chicago. Toews is good, but he's scarier when Kane is with him

Nonis did Burkes trades.

Phaneuf trade was 100% Nonis. Burke said so himself

Wasn't he in the Wings organization for years before taking the job in TB?

Also, he's seconded by Julien Brisebois, who in the mind of many, will be a great GM in the NHL.

I liked Nonis's trade with Nashville for leipsic and the 1st.....I don't really mind if he's handling the rebuild. I've really only ever hated what he's done on July 1st---and like Leaf gms before him extending guys on career years. If this is a rebuild, then neither scenerio should happen anyways

So far Shanny has brought in a bunch of smart hockey guys, and bought us a free 2nd with the Santorelli signing... And convinced mlse to do a full rebuild for the first time ever.

I have a theory:
Nonis was forced by upper management into making (bad) decisions so the Leafs hopefully make the playoffs.

Now, Shannahan has the green light from upper management to blow it up. Nonis never had the chance, but now he can go on with a "real" building phase.

Leipsic at the head of the rebuild along with Paul Bittner, great.

So we're selectively giving Shanny credit for the good moves and blaming nonis for the bad ones?

Still don't get it.

Oh, you think the Leafs will pick Bittner with the pick they got.
I'm hoping they somehow get Anthony Beauvillier instead.

Kadri is fine, anybody who thought he wouldn't be Mike Ribeiro 2.0 were deluding themselves. That kind of PP heavy 2nd line centre that is kind of a douche. Goat...man, wonder what they do with him next season. He's AHL level defensively already, but he sucks so much balls offensively he might just fall off the map. Hope he does another year in the Q as a 20 year old and murders everyone for his own confidence.

I'm sure Nonis did a lot of the leg work, but he still had the angry Irish clout of Burke.

Look at the quality of trades after Burke left, and before Shanny got here.

It is hard to shoot a puck on sand, to be fair.
