Kind of like how Tampa is doing it now?
- mykokes

Tampa is way ahead in terms of talent these days than the Wings.

If they swapped coaches, Tampa would be scary good.

And most of the talent is coming from outside the 1st round.
I have no issues with Tampa's coach though. Coop is a winner.

Maybe, I do like the Don tongue in Kardi's ear.

Next avatar would be Rasmus Andersson

He is (frank)ing sick. I can't stand how poop on he is by the mainstream prospect community.

He's so unappreciated he isn't even listed as a rookie in the OHL...

And you forgot LUCK..
- bixll

people always point to luck with the Wings with the argument "if they knew these guys were so good they would have drafted them in the first round!" it doesn't work like that. if you go back to the Datsyuk and Zetterberg picks... did the Wings know for sure that they would be HOFers? of course not. but to suggest that the Wings did not think these guys had first or second round talent is incorrect IMO. i think that they knew these were two potentially special players but that they just weren't on anyone else's radar. at that time, no one scouted Europe like the Wings. so if you know Datsyuk is going to be sitting there in round 6, why take him in round 2 or 3?

So he doesn't get picked up by another team in an earlier round. You can't leave them on the board, because you don't think they are on another teams hit list. You can't take the chance.

At the time they pick Datsyuk, NHL GMs were afraid the Russian were not opting for the KHL. So they could not take the risk of drafting in the early rounds.

With Dats and Zed they could. To be perfectly honest Zetterberg was a miracle and drafted out of the Swedish 1 league, a league that has produced one NHLer...him. Dats was picked from an obscure Russian club during the Russian Super League days. Hell Yekaterinburg is a KHL city now and has produced basically zilch. Good timing and an eye for talent.

Let's talk about Kessel's work ethic or better yet Dion's leadership qualities.

Dont want Kessel going to NYI. they don't have a 1st rd pick to give back....
- Popcorn Kid

We could use an extra first for next year. NYI have fantastic young prospects that I would like. kessel for prospects and next years first works for me
