I think he flew under the radar in Anaheim... comes to Toronto where more people follow and know the game of hockey and the media hype and whammo you get more exposure and seen in a different light.

Anaheim didn't wanna sign him for the $ he wanted then couldn't get a contract till Toronto knocked on his door...

... Which is great for us if we can flip him for a 2nd and maybe sign him back during the off season IF we can make room and move player/contracts out.

I would take him and Santorelli back for next year if it was at all possible!

I wouldn't have traded a 3rd round pick for Fologno before the season. Now I would give up a mid first and more. Players can gain value. Especially around trade deadline time.

Clarkson was signed an hour in free agency and Winnik and Santo were signed a month in. Does that really make a trade value? I'm sure every GM would of tried to sign Winnik and Santo as soon as free agency started if they knew they would have this type of season. And as for Clarksom he would of been a month later signing. GM's make mistakes.

The thing is, there will be other guys out there next year who need to revive their careers. The LEafs don't really need to ice a great team next year. They need to learn how to work and commit to a team game. A couple cheap vets may be in order. Winnik and Santo may be too expensive.

He's the same guy he was in August when every team could have had him for nothing. He's solid but he's not bringing in a second rounder. If the Leafs are offered a 3rd. Or a B prospect you take it and run.

exactly... if either of them were to go to teams with CAP issues (such as Chicago) you know they won't be resigned... and may become available... and neither should be particularly down on the Toronto situation... they've seen it at its worst already.

don't think its necessarily fair to call him out for that... there were NOT many Canuck, Sens, Habs or anyone trolling the Leafs sections when the Leafs were going 10-1-1... but plenty have shown up since.

Come on, Franson alone did not get the leafs a 1st. Plus leafs had to take salary back. That 1st will be somewhere around the 25th-26th pick.

You are right... but at the end of the day is the extra $ associated with bringing back Winnik and Santorelli worth it in order to show the kids how to play and conduct yourself in the NHL... I think so.. you just don't buy a guys talents... you also bring them in based on other qualities like leadership and mental IQ

That's why these guys will get more $ but you are right you could always bring in guys for less to play on your bottom lines... but after seeing what they brought to our team... I think moving forward with them isn't bad at all...
