I think we absolutely would. Not many contenders interested in a Kessel have 8 mil in cap space for 7 more years.

The Leafs should have the cap to do it. Even then though, like you said, it would be done to get the return we want.

Not many teams are in the position, cap wise, to fit Kessel in now, but, if they wait for the off season that situation could change. Expiring contracts, and a possible 5% league wide cap raise, should the players envoke the one time clause, would make Phil a huge target for many potential buyers. Ditto, to a lesser extent, for Phaneuf.

I never understood this. If Toronto is trading Kessel it means they're rebuilding. With his salary gone and likely several others, well have more than enough cap space to help another team with their cap problems fitting Kessel in.
