So horrible the team went and won another cup within 4 years to make it up to the fans who had to suffer the previous 2 seasons. - Aaron_85
That team would have won more. The third line was Bolland, Ladd and Versteeg for the most part. oh well. |

Well.. he did submit qualifying offers after the deadline costing the Hawks more money having to sign players as UFAs as opposed to RFAs..... which resulted in the exodus of guys like Ladd, Big Buff, Colin Fraser and a few others....
Stupid maybe but not crazy! - thehockeygod
The Hawks current GM was the one tasked to submitting the qualifying offers, Talon took the fall.

I know what you mean.. that's just how things went down for the Hawks.. yet after their rebuild they were able to win again because they drafted well enough to offset their losses.... next year or so will be different for them as Seabrook will be UFA and a few others too....
I'm a Leaf fan trust me I know what torture is... I think we all do! - thehockeygod
Seabrook is the only one that matters. Saad is a RFA after this season and going nowhere. |

Still more than Crosby and Malkin have and they pretty much kept their team together for a few years. |

Oh, I know. And eventually some of those guys would have had to be moved anyway. Might have been able to get more value for them. Never really know though. |

I'm just saying what happened... Not saying it was right or fair.. just what happened.
I like Tallon... but he like all GMs have done both good and bad things... Whose to say what really got him fired in Chi Town?? |

Now he is someone who the Leafs should target to play with Rielly..... if only he were a little bit younger though...
If I had my choice it would be him over Keith ion a heartbeat. The guy has character size and leadership qualities that would totally benefit Toronto!
Remember when Toews took that penalty in the playoffs and Seabrook went into the box calmed him down and then scored the winning goal in OT... that's what missing from Toronto!

Whipper from Calgary got Vantel from Van so worked up one night he challenged him to a fist fight....it was the funniest thing I ever read on HB. |

This is the Edmonton fans strategy...
1) Identify everything important or potentially good
2) offer everything else for a star from another team
Trade suggestions are more reasonable when both fan bases think "No Way". If one fan base, in this case Nashville's spends the next few weeks giggling behind their hands then it probably was not a good trade offer. - Aetherial
Easy Jabroni....we haven't employed that strategy for years.....we pretty much have the reality of a rebuild figured out....sit back, draft and develop and tack on an extra 3 years to the poopty plan. |

If I have my wish, he will retire a Hawk. The word around here is he is the vocal leader in the room. He has the best offensive instincts of any Hawks' D-man.
That moment may have saved that Cup run. |

i wonder is kessel will even fetch us one 1st rounder. his value has to be poop now......... - Lee Denault
It's not poop. This rebuild will only work if we get the right price for our star players. Nonis isn't stupid. He would rather keep kessel going into next year then give him away now. Someone will eventually come up to the plate and give fair value for Phi.
Who ever wants Kessel obviously thinks he makes their team better. We might be better off to ask for a young player, 2nd or prospect this year and a first rounder for NEXT years draft.

yeah you're right That was way back in the cloutier days.
There were dumb Edmonton fan suggestions this year, but they were more the normal dumbness of fan bases overvaluing their players and completely ignoring what other GMs are trying to accomplish.

I highly doubt he actually did that. Hawks wanted Stan to take over as GM (his dad was working with the team too) but didn't have a good reason to fire Tallon.
I really doubt the GM does that paperwork. That's probably an assistant GM's job to do. - Aaron_85
You're probably right but thats what they sited as reasons for his firing...
Either way their loss.. kinda and Florida's gain.... he's done well there... minus the over spending on FAs to reach the cap floor..... some bad signing that had to be made..... now they have building blocks for years and are looking good... while Edmonton is still wondering why they are having problems..... hard to believe but sometimes when you draft 1st overall really matters aka Islander/Pens/TBay......
Something Toronto is hopefully figuring out now!!! |
