Tallon is crazy. He isn't stupid.
- Elbows15

Well.. he did submit qualifying offers after the deadline costing the Hawks more money having to sign players as UFAs as opposed to RFAs..... which resulted in the exodus of guys like Ladd, Big Buff, Colin Fraser and a few others....

Stupid maybe but not crazy!

Even at the time, a lot of people around the league kind of raised an eyebrow at that one.

GMs really don't do that sh1t much anymore.

- Aetherial

Too bad George McPhee isn't around anymore. Could have rebuilt the Leafs with one trade. Kessel for Carlson, Backstrom, Wilson and 3 firsts!

Would you do Bolland straight up for Clarkson at this point?

Delusional fans like to bring that trade up when talking about Kessel though..

A player is only worth what another team is currently willing to pay for him.

The cap is making draft picks even more valuable. Especially on teams that spend to the cap. You need to keep bringing prospects into the system to augment the players identified as the core.

Actually they fired him before they won the cup but Stan Bowman made him a ring and praised his work ...

So ya he technically won a cup.... BUT

Or what the Islanders paid for Vanek..

Imo, that's what Kessel's worth.

I highly doubt he actually did that. Hawks wanted Stan to take over as GM (his dad was working with the team too) but didn't have a good reason to fire Tallon.

I really doubt the GM does that paperwork. That's probably an assistant GM's job to do.

Not quite

It was a 1st and 2nd round pick....

- thehockeygod

For a big stiff, better off rolling the dice on two Bracco type players. Teams win with skill now.

After this past 6 week span, the FOURTH collapse he has caused, they would have to retain salary if they traded him for Mike Richards.

Kane is money with the game on the line, Phil doesn't score timely goals..... But their gwg totals over their careers are the same.

Add in shootouts and kane would be pretty far ahead.

Please. That is just hurtful. Try being a fan of a team for a looonnng time and finally you get a team that has it all. Then have to watch it get blown up almost immediately after it wind a Cup. It was horrible.

This is the Edmonton fans strategy...

1) Identify everything important or potentially good
2) offer everything else for a star from another team

Trade suggestions are more reasonable when both fan bases think "No Way". If one fan base, in this case Nashville's spends the next few weeks giggling behind their hands then it probably was not a good trade offer.

But you get two prospects, two picks, and two rosters players!?!?

So true...

The problem is GMs find value in UFAs when their adding the Santorellis and Winniks to their roster as opposed to the Clarksons for the most part!

Look at Minny they added Suter and Parise... arguably making their team much netter but still they lack overall depth..... their drafting has helped them out.... because how many players would sign there otherwise??

So horrible the team went and won another cup within 4 years to make it up to the fans who had to suffer the previous 2 seasons.

I know what you mean.. that's just how things went down for the Hawks.. yet after their rebuild they were able to win again because they drafted well enough to offset their losses.... next year or so will be different for them as Seabrook will be UFA and a few others too....

I'm a Leaf fan trust me I know what torture is... I think we all do!

The rumor has always been Tallon was out sick the day those offers were due and there was a "miscommunication".
