The Leafs are not taking back a bad contract to dump Kessel.
The Leafs aren't "dumping" Kessel at all if they can get a package of good assets that might help going forward more than they feel Kessel will help if they are indeed starting from scratch.

You do not get a 27 year old perennial top 10 scorer without giving up assets, serious ones.

Howard Berger posted on his blog that the leafs should call fla and offer kessel for their 1st and Boyes.

Maybe that's why you haven't had any missed calls from MLSE about a GM position. If you think you're going to get a clear star for star trade than you're missing the point of even trading your bestplayer. The Leafs are at a point where they acknowledge they are going to be a bottom of the standings team for the next half a decade. They don't want to trade him for a star player in his prime right now...they want as many potential pieces that they can get and look towards the next few drafts to find their next superstars...even the idea of unloading Kessel at the deadline for a 1st + also helps Toronto in their goal to tank this season for a lotto pick.

The Kessel deal will take time. No rush to move him. I agree. They don't NEED the cap space if they can move out Bozak/Lupul so they can wait for the right deal for Kessel.

I agree with you but I wouldn't draft eichel as a Canadian team. I truly believe he despises Canada and would refuse to play for any Canadian team that drafted him. He has mad talent though.
