problem is that will Florida give up their first seeing that the draft is there this year? that may put more pressure to live bodies in a deal to keep the pick.. teams usually like to have a first rounder in their draft ..makes it interesting for sure
- bazookajo1

Toronto can trade back the first from nashville? If Florida actually decides something other than their crap.

Since coming to Canada my ability to detect sarcasm has somewhat waned, partly due to hearing it significantly less than back at home.

(Between you and me, most Canadians that I have met are not so good at it... )

Wait, was that my outside voice...?

I hadn't considered that but that is something they have to worry about. If their first is out of play then its three young players/prospects. The more this gets discussed the less Florida looks like a potential trade partner

getting that Florida pick, coupled with our own would be huge in getting #1..with the standings as they are now ofcourse

Nobody is getting #1 except the team that wins the lottery.

I'm kinda thinking you can get more for Kessel at the deadline.

He's not a building block. He is a guy to push your team over the top.

So I'm thinking that the best deal can be had at the deadline, when some GM gets tempted to go all in - and gets stoopid about it.

And if they trade Kessel, they are burning the boats; it's full-on reconstruction, because no UFA will want to come here. We will be building from within, because it will be our only option.

- Atomic Wedgie

That doesn't mean it's gotta be a deadline deal though. Lots of teams looking to get better in the summer.

that is what I mean...having 2 picks in the lottery statistically is huge advantage to win the lottery

In a word..........

YES

Why... because we have many decent D prospects we need more high end talent up front... maybe trade our high end 1st to another team to move down 1 or 2 spots at the most and grab Crouse if someone wants Hanifin.

He is a really good prospect though..... just think we need forwards more then D at this point! Both are great picks!

- thehockeygod

I don't know, championships are won on the back of a great defence. This team will toil with top 5 picks for probably the next two or three years. I think if you can get a defencemen like Hanifin early on in your rebuild it would benefit the long term success greatly. Chicago drafted Keith and Seabrook before Toews and Kane.

Lindholm missing a game didn't help, nor did Geguin getting hurt. Still, well played

See you in the final???

It's won as much on the backs of dmen as it is on solid goaltending, luck and depth down the middle.

Toews is the most important part of the Hawks.

Teams that have first rounders and aren't making the post season won't be giving up those picks
