I think Zatkoff from rumblings yesterday will be in tonight. I was kinda hoping he would go in Calgary, but MAF does need the rest.
it's, what, a 15 point division lead? Jeff could play the back to back, to be honest and with just 1 game next week, MAF could get some R and R - ryman1566
I would rather put MAF in net tonight. While Edmonton blows chunks, they have some offensive weapons. Calgary - certainly not as many.

Yeah but with the Pens tops picks they got A good goalie, 87, 71, and Staal. Staal was moved for more pieces and free up cap room. The Oilers still don't have a good goalie, 0 Defense and RNH, Hall, Yak, and Eberle are nowhere close to where 87 and 71 are, or ever will be. Keeping those 4 long term with no supporting cast and no defense will just mean more top 5 picks in the future. Eventually they will have to move those pieces to aquire other needs. - sammy87
Eberle wasn't a top 5 pick. He was a #22 pick. |

A thousand times no!
I have said it before and I will say it again... Any trade involving any one of "the core" MUST yield a near certain solution to this teams many problems.
Settling for a question mark, as good as I think Letang is, I am not convinced that his type is what this team needs.
Trading any of them for anything less then a near lock would be taking two steps backwards in my opinion.

Pittsburgh- 5 top 5 picks
Edmonton-3 top 5 picks
And no Eberle was not a top 5 pick - Ihatebrianburke
Huh, Thought he was. I think Whitney was one of the Pens top 5. I think he's in Siberia now.
I just don't see Letang moving to EDM, it kinda makes sense but still too high profile to actually happen. I'm thinking more of Hemsky or Cammi. Neither will cost the Pens as much as Letang and fits their needs. Letang could also stay if they re up in Pitt. |

Did they just miss? - dbell646
Klefbom, Nurse haven't made their NHL debuts yet (that makes sense)
Marincin (46th in 2010) has been playing very nice hockey this year in our bottom pairing, and looks comfortable enough to be a blue line fixture. Musil (31st in 2010) was always going to be a slow burn but he's made his AHL debut this year and has high projectability to an NHL game if not high potential.
Schultz is Schultz: in a sophomore slump but has undeniable skill and potential.

No it just takes time to develop. Marincin has been called up for a few this year. Nurse is in junior and is looking exceptional. Klefbom was injured all of last year but is doing well in the ahl this year.
D take time. |

Get D that can play D.
Edler and Tanev for Ebs plus this years first.
Before you whine put things in perspective, you would now have a legit top D pairing, one that would actually move y'all up through the standings.
The cost is high, but it would undoubtedly result in success. |

Exactly. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that 8 of the young defenseman acquired by the Oilers since 2010 - Schultz, Klefbom, Nurse, Marincin, Musil, Larsen, Fedun and Gernat - have shown reasonable potential to be NHLers of some capacity now or in the future.
But these things take time. |

Pittsburgh doesn't have to add to this. Anyone who suggests so needs a reality check. That is retarded. It's straight up. Where do I sign? I will take Letang to the airport. - Oneonta Penguin
Actually, they would... Letang is not as good as you Pens' fans think, and he is not the type of defenseman Edmonton needs. Letang is an all-star, but needs to play for a good team to be effective. He is not a shut-down guy, and isn't a guy I'd want shadowing the best players from other teams... |

Maybe next year, but not this year.
This isn't a Disney movie, there's an astronomically low chance that pick would be worse than a top 5 selection. Which is way too much to essentially be trading for Tanev. |

"The core" of a team with 13 wins?
So they don't need to change things up by bringing in a top 10-15 d man in the league when d is the problem with the team ?
Wow ok

No doubt, but the pay off would be that we would no longer be able to rely on out scoring you guys, as would much of the league.
Tanev at 24 years old is already looking like our best defensive defenseman on most nights, plus his offensive game is growing. |

Maybe not elite, but that is not the issue, and honestly over 50% of the reason he is on the team is because he knows how to play with Crosby. Yes Kunitz is not elite level, but his goal scoring and chemistry with Sid, and his ability to be physical will help Canada alot more than people are currently considering. You can't just build a team soley on Rocket Richard winners and MVP's....gotta have roles too. The Olympic tournament is no different - ryman1566
You make it seem like he has some secret knowledge on how to play with Sid, like it's some kind of mystic knowledge or skill-set... Are you kidding me?! Come on now...
Also, every player who was snubbed is actually a better, more well-rounded player than Kunitz. You're trying to tell me Giroux or St. Louis wouldn't be able to play with Sid? That only Kunitz can? Sorry man, that doesn't fly. Sid MAKES PLAYER AROUND HIM BETTER, not the other way around man. You're a Pens fan, you should know this?! |

I don't agree that Tanev is suddenly a proven top pairing Dman. To indefinitely suggest that he'd be any more of a "top pairing D" than Petry would be wrong. Edler's great, but he's also struggled a fair deal since losing his partners (Ehrhoff and Salo).
Again, it's been said here that those two assets only move if we get a clear fit for them. Those are the teams two most valuable trade assets (none of Hall, Nurse, or RNH go anywhere). Making that trade then limits the team's ability to make any other big trades. |

Where does this from??? Letang is a phenomenal defensive d man ... His problem is turnovers!!! ( btw the same issue doughty has)Yes weber or Chara would def be a better fit for the oilers ... Do u actually think one of those players is a possibility??? |

Honestly, i believe that trade would be more beneficial for you guys in the long run. Sure you can draft Ekblad, but he needs another 2-3-4 years to develop, along with the rest of EDM's rookie D-core.
The above trade would spell instant success, as opposed to waiting another 3 or 4 years. |
