Nope. I was reminded of it last week The very smart Russ Cohen of Sportsology.com reminded of it during a discussion, when I asked why Howson hadn't been fired.

If you have Weber, after 3 or 4 seasons, half of his contract is paid out. He's still likely to be an elite defenseman, and they hold their value-look at what Pronger cost the Flyers.
- Jsaquella

i was suggesting they move him after next year, given his desire to be elsewhere. i don't think they'd let it go 3 or 4 years. that's an eternity in sports. they should cut their losses, and turn the page with multiple assets.

Only thing I would trade back to Nashville is a signed Homer jersey!

Nashville is having meetings tomorrow to see if they can count. 5 days and they still can't figure out how much it's going to cost to fund Weber.
- stveshdy

decision has to be made by now. how (frank)ing long can this take to decipher the options? we've been doing it in here nonstop for 5 days.

I just hope Dreger feelings on the podcast with Toronto 1050 are right...he said from what he is hearing from rival GM's across the league that he doesn't believe Nashville can match the contract and then gave props to Holmgren and Titan Sports Management for crafting such a piece of contractual art

I think the decision has been made. Now it's just a case of seeing if they can get the Flyers to up the ante.

From the lack of comments in the media and on twitter, I think you may be right. At this point I'm wondering if Patrick himself is even aware of it.

But it did happen...

pieces that they didn't need, that's the thing that gets you, getting a top line goal scorer should cost a team somewhat, they gave them pieces that they didn't need or want
- puckhead17

The Flyers are about to get an elite defenseman, maybe for four 1st rounders that are likely to be late round picks. If not that, then maybe a package very similar to what the Rangers gave up to get Nash.

I'd also disagree that they don't need Dubinsky or Anisimov. With Prust and Dubinsky gone, they won;t have as much sandpaper in the third and fourth lines. They did add Asham, but he's not as skilled as Dubinsky or as consistent as Prust.

They also now need somebody to step in and be the 2nd line center. Anisimov had good chemistry with Stepan and Gaborik. Do they move Stepan to center? See if Boyle can play on the 2nd line?

The Rangers will have some tinkering to do, and they did shake up their chemistry a bit.

I'd let it sit for a a few years. Can't trade him immediately after paying him $27mm in one year

Boyle on the second line that should be interesting. What about Mike Rupp?

I think Nashville is more doing projections to see the impact matching would have on the 12 free agents they will have to deal with next summer.

I think they needed to do that. They needed to change the mix a little. They were very good defensively. But needed some more offense. They got that in a big way. They can find some role players to fill in the gaps.

perhaps that was part of the rangers strategy - to make a move on nash, get their guy, and get the flyers to weaken their depth by upping their offer.

It would probably end up being Stepan. Who knows, has Krider ever played at center?

They have pieces to fill in, just remains to be seen how they fit.

What a crap franchise. You could merge the best players from Blue Jackets and Preds and we could bench Giroux and still whack those losers.

If I was Nashville I would take the 4 first rounders. Honestly, their only hope for a future is to hit again on some big players. If they own new players rights for 8-10 years (depending on cba), this may be a prudent move.

given that outlay of cash, they'd probably have to let it sit. that can cause even more problems though, which is my point. rip the band-aid off now and get it over with.

I agree, it was a good trade for the Rangers end. They addressed a definite need, especially with Gaborik's surgery likely keeping him out until Christmas

Nicely done. However according to hb CPA's the Weber contract can be handled at ease. Just ask Mr. Wilson he has it.
