Sulk away. IF he refuses to play i believe Columbus gets off the hook for his salary, no? I understand the cap hit is there but the hell with him. I'm sorry but if I'm a columbus fan I'm pissed right now.

As for Nashville this is totally different with Weber. He's on a waiting period to leave unless his current team matches an offer which is the financial equivalent of shooting themselves in the face and hoping to live. They are in less of a position to demand value than Columbus was.

- JoeRussomanno

Columbus wouldn't have to pay him, but he would lose value as an asset if he sat out.

Both to say that Howson wasn't painted into a corner is ignoring a lot of the facts.

Not sure how you can say that with such certainty

instead of fulfilling the contract he signed... and his role as team captain.. he demanded a trade.. and kept the demand restricted to 5 teams

not saying he's a bad guy, but to say he'd be a good, positive influence in that dressing room going forward is not a given at all, imo

- Crimsoninja

I can say it with certainty due to what you read and what is said about Nash as a person and a player. I think if he stayed in Columbus and had to play there, he would remain a professional. Howson would tell him I'll continue to try and move him. But I need the right return. In that situation, Howson's loyalties are to the Organization, not the player.
For Howson to not demand one of Hagelin, Stepan, Kreider, or Del Zotto, is very weak on his part.

Absolutely. GM's have to stop having their hand forced by players. I'll try to accomodate you. But I'm not taking a bad deal just to make you happy. Your being well paid, and you have a contract.

The GM also has to take some heat for that as well, they hand out these NTC clauses like candy, yet we bash the player when he exercises his right to use it.
- Pat MaGroin

I don't bash the player. I have no problem with any player invoking a movement clause. The NHL climate these days is that you don't sign a top player without a movement clause.

Meszaros is the one I compared to Dubinsky. Both are mid twenties and both have shown inconsistency.

The Jackets actually are pretty deep on defense. They need help up front. Anisimov and Voracek are similar in terms of production over their careers.

- Jsaquella

Dubinsky Anisimov = Voracek Mez

A different package, but yes in that sense it's very close, but I don't see where Sather had it over Howson to say take it or leave it, he was more concerned with quantity than quality in that deal, and the more bodies he received, regardless of such.

he's using it after demanding a trade lol

this isnt like Columbus was trying to ship him off against his will and he is trying to protect himself by using the the clause

they are not in as tight a spot as Nashville is. Weber signed an offer sheet with the Flyers that causes problems for Nashville if they match. Rick Nash was under Contract with the Blue Jackets. Now look I understand there's probably more to this than meets the eye here, but based on all that we've heard, I tell Nash open up your list a little bit so I can squeeze more out of that idiot Sather and you're traded. Might even have to wait till the deadline but wtf, you want out that bad it's gotta be on the right terms.

actually im inserting myself into the CBA talks

these lists of acceptable destinations clauses should be voided if the player demands to be moved

Very true. I wish like the NBA they didn't give them out so much, I believe Kobe Bryant is the only one that has one, though that was a few years ago.

agreed,
Big difference in the situations we're comparing, they can say they'll match all they want, but, here you go, Howson deals Nash so he doesn't female dog & moan?
Well what about Poile claiming to match &, as well, wouldn't he have an unhappy player in Weber on board playing 30 minutes a night without much support??

If the driving force behind trading Nash was so he doesn't cry like a 9 year old girl then this league is lost.

i agree cause in that podcast with Dreger..he clearly states that Nash was considering adding Carolina and Washington to his list and that would have def ramped up the return...I have no idea why he waited til now to make this deal for what he got

First off, let me start by saying that yes, this was quite a poopty haul for Columbus when a player of Nash's caliber is going the other way.. but when trying to look at this in a positive light for Blue Jacket fans, they did get some depth and grit with a little bit of scoring touch to go in there top 6, added another quality D prospect to to an already talented D group.. and they now have 3 first round picks in next years draft, which is said to be pretty deep.

First thing you tell a player like Nash if he has a NMC and requests a trade. Waive your clause unconditionally, and I'll see what I can do.
