couldn't agree more.

but at the time of the trade, a young winger, a first (have to forget about what coots did since the time he was picked) and a third for carter is not as good as two young forwards, a top d prospect, AND a first

- OrangeBlack27

even with this analysis, you have to consider that a top ten 1st rounder is waaay more valuable than a bottom ten

In the right situation, Nash is more then a 60 point Winger. If he plays with a player like Brad Richards. You could be looking at 40 + goals, and 80+ points. Nash has never played with a Center as talented as Richards. And certainly for those numbers, 7.8 isn't overpayment.

You cant judge him by what he does in Columbus,,, hell V looked alot better once he went to a real team

You can't factor in who the Flyers got with the 8th overall pick in your evaluation.

Voracek was an underachieving forward when traded. Stagnant for a couple of years. It's not like he was a budding superstar at the time.

- bradleyc4

Absolutely you can factor in who the Flyers got with the 8th pick. You would expect to get a top young player with that pick. And Voracek was a normal young player that was developing. Supposed to be ups and downs. It's funny how the situation changes. Was JVR an underacheiving forward? Many here thought he was going to bust out and be a top player. Every player develops at their own pace. The talent and ability of voracek is clear.

The Rangers are worse after this trade. Both for the present and the future. Less depth, less grit, and a contract that is rapidly depreciating in value.
- bradleyc4

not in the present, they're better right now.

This Weber situation better turn out in the Flyers favor or there will be a (frank)ing mutiny around here.

If you're going to give a player $7.8 million/year, you can get a player of that caliber easily. Go sign Doan and Semin instead.
- bradleyc4

No not easily. That player has to want to come and play for you. Doan is 36. Nash is in his prime and is a better player then Semin, who comes with doubts about his work ethic. Which may or may not be fair.

New plan of attack. We have Grossmann, Colby, Schenn and Weber stand on our blue line. Send out 2 forwards at a time. Let the other team try to get through our schitty wall

You're assuming that he plays with Richards, and that any improvement in the quality of his linemates isn't negated by Torts' passive defensive system. Brad Richards saw a 20% reduction in offense in his first year as a Ranger. I don't think you'll see Nash's production drop that drastically, but I wouldn't expect him to far exceed his career averages either.

one thing i will say....is everyone praised the hell out of shero for the staal trade. is this that much different? is sutter THAT far ahead of both dubinsky and anisimov?

i'm not sure i'm completely with you guys on this, but i see your point. and it does seem like there's a lot of exaggerating as to how bad this is

- FlyerMike18

by exaggerating, do you mean claims that howson got "skull penetrated" ?

You'll notice that I said if he plays with Richards. I see defense as creating offense. Tortorella's system generates tons of scoring chances. It's about having the ability to finish. Which Nash certainly has. Not to mention with playing with much better players on the PP.

I think the Rangers are going to have a great 1st line, but after that it gets thin. Scoring was spotty after the 1st line last year, take away 2 players from that and it's likely worse unless Kreider comes and becomes a 2nd line player right away. Also thier defensive is going to suffer big time. They lost Prust, Dubinsky, and Fedotenko... Who is going to pick up that slack? Aaron Asham?

I think thier young defense is going to get exposed like never before, and Hank is going to have a dreadful year. I'm not sure what you guys are afraid of. We beat a much deeper and better team in the Penguins in the playoffs last year. We can take the new Defenseless Rangers.
