Wow, you trade offer is really south of Couterier and schenn.

I'd say Coots is more valuable than Schenn too.

Would you rather have a Jordan Staal or a Bobby Ryan

depends on what your team's needs are.

But it is not something that is contracted as part of the offer sheet. There is no obligation on the part of Nashville, the offer sheet is "deemed" a contract for the matching team.
- spatso

No, the Offer Sheet is not deemed a contract for the matching team. It is an offer to enter into a contract containing the terms of the Offer sheet. Additions to the contract such as movement clauses can be added in the SPC.

No sense arguing who has the higher ceiling. Both B. Schenn and Couturier have the potential to be special players.

Trade 2 1sts and the Schenn's and a throw in of MAB for Weber. I'd do that anyday. Couturier is the bigger prize between him and Brayden Schenn. The Schenn bros. will be a nice sell for the Preds as well (to their fanbase). Hold on to Mezsaros and Voracek - both young and up-and-coming players.

who am i to say... i have no idea. i want to keep both. but as it stands right now i'd put couturier in the untouchables category. sometime put it very nicely the other day, as a 19 year old in his first playoffs he shut down freaking malkin in a ridiculously high scoring series. at 19.

there's no guarantee he automatically takes the next step in his development next year...and maybe the year after. i have no doubt he'll be good...but, and i've said this before, i don't see him having the ceiling as an all around player that Schenn does.

he lacks explosive skating, and tho he has a deceptive shot, he's not as aggressive offensively. he will learn, but i see his cap being a shut down offensively slick 2nd line centerman, a bit less effective in the offensive zone as Jordan Stall.

is that bad...hell no! but i don't think he projects into a superstar. Shea Weber is a LEGIT SUPERSTAR and has potential for the Norris every year he stays healthy.

So what if Nashville matches, Weber wants an NMC, and Nashville won't give it to him? Is Weber forced to sign without the NMC because the contract is based on the offer sheet?

Flyers hold a distinct advantage now, having a signed offer sheet.

i understand both sides... which is what makes this whole thing so stomach churning. having a signed offer sheet i hope puts the flyers in the position to not have to make that decision.

So what if they can't agree on things in the contract that aren't specified in the offer sheet as is?

The more time that goes by makes me think that Poile has given Homer his offer sheet. Homer either trades the players Poile wants or Poile matches. Homer might be on the phone since last Thursday seeing who else is available since we will be offensively short handed if Homer gives in. I feel Shea stays in Nashville and Flyers pick up either Nash or Ryan.

I think this year we will find out what Jordan Staal really is offensively. He'll be the #2 center behind his bro which is a far cry from being #3 in line behind Sid and Geno. Obviously he has opportunities with Malkin & Crosby being in and out of the line-up the past 3 years but he has been hurt too. His PPG have gone up the last years as well (0.71 in 10/11 which is 58 points per 82 games & 0.81 in 11/12 which is 66 points per 82 games).

So basically, Staal has more offensive upside than it seems IMO. More than 50 points per year at least.

I don't know that there is any precedent for that. I do know that Weber can't go anywhere else for a year. A team could play hardball and not give in to a movement clause in the deal. If Weber doesn't sign the deal, he's out 13M. But I find it hard to beleive that a player of Weber quality won't have a movement clause.

God I hope not, Carbomb ain't the only one wary of Leighton's play since the finals. I still get panic attacks whenever someone breaks in on him.
