For what it's worth, Shea Weber had more points than Schenn, Read and Couts last year and the same as Jake but scored 1 more goal.
- NickTheKid87

Understood. But who is going to round out the forward core? Are the Flyers going to have Sestito, Rinaldo, Shelley, Wellwood, Holmstrom and various other assorted minor league stiffs in the lineup?

ya id rather lose the picks, but i dont think id look at any of the potential trade scenarios as "gutting the roster" really
- Crimsoninja

How many top-10 prospects can one team trade away in a summer?

If they can get Weber for picks, great. If not, this team could easily grow into a young powerhouse w/o him. There's a reason why Homer's been trying desperately to add this summer w/o being willing to subtract much -- this team has a lot of special young players on it.

I like Schenn better despite how well Couts played. Everyone is Woo'ed by Couts right now, but lets not forget Schenn and everything he has done prior to his injury riddled season. Couts have a great defensive game, but his offense needs help. What I like about Schenn though is he hits hard and has sandpaper to his game, along with having the potential to be a huge goal scorer.
- RooNosHockey

Couts was not drafted as a defensive forward....nothing against Schenn who I like but he wasn't even in the league as a 19 year old...

i think you really have to look at this whole thing in the long term

holes at forward can be filled over time. How often do you get a chance to add a Norris-caliber dman?

gotcha

but id think they'd be able to make some additional moves to fill some of those holes. and you'd have Weber for life which could help me deal with a short term hit to the wing position

- Crimsoninja

In addition, Weber himself provides some of this lost offense. If they make a move close to what is being speculated, this team will not have problems scoring goals IMO.

Not often and he's still young. When was the last time the Flyers had a 100mph shot from the point? Probably never.

Your last sentence is 100% correct. There cannot be any inducements or considerations other than what is provided for in the offer sheet.
- spatso

Again, you are 100% incorrect.

Yup. I know. I think the OS has clouded my thinking. If the Flyers give Nashville a fair package I can live with it. Weber is an elite talent.

Homer will have a stud center and a stud D man, now he will have to work on the wing and hopefully Reese works magic with Bryz

so you think Coots will be better than B Schenn?
- vejim

I'd say Coots is more valuable than Schenn too.

Would you rather have a Jordan Staal or a Bobby Ryan

Schenn wasn't in the NHL as a 18-19 year old because LA actually takes the time to develop their picks properly. The Flyers have a history of rushing kids to the show, with varying degrees of success and failure.

Both guys had dominant junior careers, but what sticks out for Schenn is that he absolutely owned the WJC in 2011, against the very best players of his age group.

Versteeg's staying with all the gorgeous snatch in FLA. 4 year deal reach, per Florida's team twitter feed.

from what i understand, no trade restrictions in the contract if he winds up in nashville

and if they match with an intent to trade later, no one said it has to be immediately when the one year is up

- FlyerMike18

Weber will most certainly have Movement clauses in his contract. Whether it is in Philly or Nashville.

Coots is better than schenn. He would've gone #1 in the draft if he had not gotten injured. His ceiling is higher also IMO
- Just5

Still don't think he would've gone before rnh or landeskog.

probs over-reactionary backlash since WJC performances seem to get fluffed big time by media, but i think his better-than-point/game performance as a 16 year old in the western league is almost as impressive.

Trade 2 1sts and the Schenn's and a throw in of MAB for Weber. I'd do that anyday. Couturier is the bigger prize between him and Brayden Schenn. The Schenn bros. will be a nice sell for the Preds as well (to their fanbase). Hold on to Mezsaros and Voracek - both young and up-and-coming players.
