Actually, I believe Poile and Holmgren know the two or three possible scenarios that will end this on Wednesday. I don't think there is a lot of things to discuss. The time is needed to allow everyone to get comfortable with what is going to happen.

I think the ball is in Nashville's court. They may or may not have had talks to Homer about a trade but at the end of the day this is a huge financial decision for Nashville and they have to make it in 7 days.

You know someone says that franchise defenseman are hard to obtain....what about franchise centers? Schenn potentially is a franchise center.
- Philly1980

Flyers have a franchise center. Named Claude Giroux. They also have another potential one in Sean Couturier.

It'd be dealing from a position of strength to land a position of need.

To me I would like to keep Mez. Before his injury plagued season last year he was arguably the best d-man aside from Pronger.

I wouldn't be giving Nashville jack poop. If they want to match they are allowed to do so and risk the future of the franchise.

If not they can take the four 1st rounders and be happy.

I have agreed with your thoughts. Although I have been told a "Gratton Deal" seems to be more likely.

Not sure why some people are saying they should match and then trade him a year later. Would you pay a guy 26 million for one season?

That would be the best thing for the Flyers, however, Holmgren and Snider seem to have the Shea Fever really bad and might not want to have Poile match after all is said and done and not get Weber

That idea makes no sense at all. The odds that Weber also gets a NMC in his deal is very likely. He would then control where he can go and Nashville would still probably not get the return they would like. Plus they already invested so much at that point. I dont get it either.

Once again a lot depends on just how bad the Flyers want Weber. Homer could feel that his offer sheet could get the job done. He may also think he needs to trade but only at the cost he was willing to pay originally before the offer sheet was sent.
- stveshdy

To me if Nashville is wanting a trade to happen that means they cant match for Weber.

Weber will more than likely be better than any of the pieces being moved or the resulting players that come from the draft picks.

Personally I think it comes down to one thing. If Nashville can or cannot financially match. If they cant, then I see no need to play nice and trade anything more than four 1st rounders.

If the Preds cannot do it financially I don't see them having any leverage.

Will find out soon enough. The fact that they put in an offer sheet tells me their not willing to give up everything to get him. My opinion of course.

Exactly! That is what Holgren gives him to sell to the Nashville owners and season ticket holders.
- spatso

I dont think homer does that or cares about nasvilles ticket issues. I dont think homer budges unless nashville is really going to match.

I've been saying for days to stand pat. You have to be willing to risk losing Weber. I dont know if the Flyers are willing to do that or not but me personally, I am.

Why doesnt Nashville take the picks and then trade them ... I am sure they can get Jbow For 2 1st rounders + or throw all 4 and get Iggy also

See my thing is this.

Nashville either can or cannot match. I strongly believe if they could they would.

If the Predators cannot financially take such a gamble then there is no need to play nice and give up anything other than picks.

Personally I think this whole thing comes down to the financial aspect not what kind of package Holmgren is offering. Before the offer sheet and seeing that Weber more than likely wants out himself I would have been willing to do a deal of Brayden and Cooties. The one that apparently Poile was asking for. However the situation has changed, and Nashville has lost all leverage imo.

Who knows.

I feel that Brayden Schenn is very comparable to Couturier, but I give a very slight nod to Couturier because right now he does have more value around the NHL.
- Jsaquella

I think Couturier has mroe value than Schenn, which is no knock on Schenn. Couturier has already shown to be a very good defensive player and with additional minutes, will get his points. I think Brayden will have more offensive upside but Couturier will contribute well offensively and be a much more responsible and better defensive player as shown this year on PK and reg strength.
