As opening week continues to prod Fred’s around the hockey world, Columbus takes center stage tonight in their home opener against the Arizona Coyotes at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Two of the youngest and weakest teams in the league will be debuting new players, captains, coaches, and captains for this contest tonight.
Let’s take a deeper dive into the Coyotes, who I have in last in the Western Conference and the Central Division based on my offseason and opening night prediction blogs. The Coyotes are in full scorched burning the franchise to a crisp with the moves made this summer to rebuild.

- HC Andre Tourigny
A lot of youth and overpaid talent has come to the land of the misfortune in Arizona in the midst of their rebuild, with almost everyone on expiring or one year deals. Andre Tourigny is also debuting for Arizona after spending the last couple of seasons with the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League.
For Columbus, we get the NHL debuts of Cole Sillinger and Yegor Chinakov. Chinakov was drafted in 2020, 21st overall ; Sillinger was drafted 12th overall in 2021. Sean Kuraly makes his hometown Columbus debut alongside Adam Boqvist and Jake Bean. Returning to the Columbus lineup is Jakub Voracek, Max Domi, and Guatav Nyqvist. We also get the head coaching debut for Brad Larsen and company in Columbus.

Players to Watch
ARI — Jakob Chychrun — The new franchise player of the desert is their new top left handed defenseman in the offensive defenseman. He is on an island and level of his own on the team and in the league, and could draw more to the team in the coming years.
CBJ — Cole Sillinger — the rookie is making his debut tonight in the NHL with the captain as protection on his side. He has earned his nine game trail after production all preseason and in the rookie tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The kid is a star and will be full time soon, but this is nice to enjoy the game and fun with him here in the present.
What say you?
