What a news day for Columbus fans and also a hockey fan in general. The gift of giving is back and that John Tortorella.

According to Aaron Portzline of the Athletic, it has been confirmed that the former bench boss has joined ESPN as an analyst for the upcoming season. Tortorella joins a cast and crew of ESPN personalities; former NHL players; and hockey hall of famers.

Tortorella’s most recent coaching stint was with the Columbus Blue Jackets, finding their first playoff series win, and it was over the now back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning; whomst he guided to their first every Stanley Cup Championship
In 2004.

Tortorella is one of the winningest head coaches in NHL history, also formerly coaching the New York Rangers and the Vancouver Canucks; and being an assistant coach with the Buffalo Sabers.

Tortorella is known for massive unscripted moments in front of media members, and calling out NHL players in the past, and this move could propel the hockey revenue into the new ESPN and NHL television deals with his personality on the screen.

What is unseen by many fans is his monumental charitable efforts, primarily with kennels and animal support. He was a big conveyor of it in Columbus, alongside his wife. Not everything he does is obnoxious, as he is one of the most intelligent minds in the game of hockey. His coaching style was a defensive revolutionary toward opposing teams that would try to clap bombs towards the net minders and defenders of his squad.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Columbus Blue Jackets are actively shopping Max Domi.

“The Columbus Blue Jackets do not believe Max Domi is a fit with the team, and they are trying to trade him”

Domi, 26, is in the final year of a two year contract getting him $5.3M for the 2021-2022 season. Domi was acquired by Columbus with a 2020 third round draft pick, defenseman Samuel Knazko, to the Montreal Canadiens for winger Josh Anderson. Anderson was an impact player in year one of his $33M dollar contract extension with the Stanley Cup finalist.

Domi was originally drafted by Arizona and was flipped to Montreal for center Alex Galchenyuk. No teams are linked to talk with Domi and Columbus as he is recovering from surgery that will keep him until at least December.
