The Calgary Flames have a couple of decisions to make in the very near future.

Centers Linus Lindstrom and Milos Roman are in need of entry-level contracts. If the Flames don’t oblige prior to 5 p.m. (EST) on Monday, they will lose the rights to both prospects.

While many calendar dates this off-season are still up in the air, the 'Must Sign By' date of June 1st for certain drafted players is still in effect.

That they’ve made it this far without getting deals is probably telling of how things will play out. I have no issues should that be the case.

Lindstrom, a 4th rounder of the Flames in 2016, had a respectable season in the SHL but nothing to write home about. He put up 20 points in 48 games, good for 7th on his team in scoring, and only registered 69 shots. There were multiple defenders in his age group to better that total.

Lindstrom also had a negative goal differential and his team’s goal share was 9.4% higher *without* him on the ice. I’m not sure there is a lot there.

A year ago I would have predicted an ELC for Roman. His point outputs jumped from 32 to 60 in his D+1 season and he finished 3rd on Vancouver in scoring.

Roman’s play really stagnated this season, though. His point production on a per game basis dropped. He wasn’t as efficient with his ice time, either, as his points/60 dipped.

While Roman’s relative Goals For% remained positive, his GF% also took a hit this season. It just wasn’t Roman’s year.

Realistically speaking, an NHL prospect two seasons removed from his draft should be a high-end player in a junior league if he’s going to have any sort of future. I wouldn’t exactly call 47 points in 62 games high-end, especially considering Roman turned 20 early in the season.

The Flames would be right to walk away.
