Bovada not optimistic about Gaudreau's Hart Trophy chances

Bovada recently released Hart Trophy odds for the 2018-19 season and they weren't overly kind to Johnny Gaudreau.

The Calgary Flames' star winger was listed at 50/1, which ties him with seven others – including 35-year-old Ilya Kovalchuk – as the 20th favorite to take home the hardware.

Personally, I think they're underrating Gaudreau.

Last season Gaudreau led the league with a +30 penalty differential(!!) and posted 84 points in 80 games.

He put up those numbers despite the Flames' power play being shockingly inept all season long. They no doubt left some goals on the table, which could have further improved Gaudreau's totals.

This year Gaudreau will have the luxury of playing on a better power play under Geoff Ward – it can't be any worse – *and* more talented linemates at even-strength. I am a big Micheal Ferland fan but Elias Lindholm and James Neal have more polished offensive skillsets.

Gaudreau is one of the league's most dynamic players and he has the supporting cast necessary to produce at an elite rate.

If he's able to do so, and the Flames can sneak into the playoffs in a mediocre Pacific Division, I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest Gaudreau could find himself in the conversation.
