Martin Jones strikes again; Losing streak reaches four

The San Jose Sharks should be embarrassed with that effort against the Los Angeles Kings. They lost 4-2 at Staples Center to a bad team that wanted it more.

Los Angeles dominated the first period, outshooting the Sharks 12-3 and scored the games first goal for just the 25th time this season.

San Jose responded with a strong second period on goals from Barclay Goodrow and Tomas Hertl. The Sharks led 2-1 heading into the final 20 minutes of the game.

San Jose had been 32-1-2 when leading after two periods. Then the wheels fell off.

Somehow, someway the King scored three goals in the third period and skated away with the win. Los Angeles hasn’t scored more than three goals in a game since 3/2 and they managed to pot a triple in the third period to be what is supposed to be one of them if not the, best team in the Western Conference.

With the loss, the Sharks chances of catching the Calgary Flames for first in the Pacific Division are slipping away. Calgary leads by five points with eights games to play.

Losing to the Kings is a bad look, but not as bad as Martin Jones has looked. Even the often even-keeled Pete Deboer may start to wonder if his goalie has enough to lead this team in a potential deep run.

Remember all those goalie trade rumors leading up to the deadline? The Sharks held their ground and look what's happening now.

The game-tying goal went through Jones, and Anze Kopitar made him look like a rec league goalie after two beers. Again, not a good look.

San Jose’s lost four in a row, the scoring has dried up and the goaltending has been spotty at best. They visit Anaheim tonight. Can a bad Ducks’ team cure all that ails the Sharks?

Aaron Dell should get the start. He hasn’t been any better than Jones and until one or both of the goalies turn things around, every game is going to be a crap shoot.
