Here we are. It is very likely that in a normal year this could have been my Opening Night Game Day Blog, but instead we are discussing the 2020 NHL Draft which begins this afternoon.

First off I wish Connor McDavid a speedy recovery, as it was announced yesterday the Oilers captain did test positive for COVID19, had mild symptoms and was recovering fine.

No new news yet regarding what to expect from the Edmonton Oilers over the next couple of days. Unless things change drastically in the next couple hours Edmonton will select 14th overall.

One interesting bit of information is the updated TSN Trade Bait List, every year TSN keeps up to date info on players who have been mentioned in rumours. This isn't to say that every one of these players will move, but it is fun to watch.

Right now there are two Oilers names on this list. Kris Russell comes in at the #42 spot which won't surprise anyone who follows the team. His cap hit and low salary should be of interest to some teams such as the Penguins or maybe even the Sabres.

The surprise however is the #48 spot which Evan Bouchard now holds. It was speculated earlier that the Oilers offered their first round pick this year and Evan Bouchard in exchange for Ekman-Larsson, those reports were later discovered as not having any fact to them.

Evan Bouchard is currently the only Oilers right shot defensive prospect with top four NHL potential. He brings an offensive upside that Edmonton has not had since Chris Pronger. I am not saying that Bouchard will be Pronger, simply that he has a unique skillset. Bouchard is on his ELC as well and would be another way to save cap space moving forward. I see Bouchard in the NHL before even the likes of Broberg.

I will continue to update this blog throughout today as we edge closer towards the Oilers pick.

THE PICK IS IN, EDMONTON SELECTS DYLAN HOLLOWAY

Seth Jarvis was so close to falling to the Edmonton Oilers but just as they did in 2006, the Hurricanes ruined the day for Oilers fans once more.

That being said Dylan Holloway could still turn into a fantastic forward for the Oilers. He plays a strong north south game and is a power forward. He won the CHGL Player of the Year last season. Other players who won that award included, Cale Makar, Tyson Jost, and Kyle Turris.

Honestly Holloway wasn't on my radar for Edmonton as I thought if not Jarvis, someone like Zary or Mercer would fall to the Oilers. Will update this blog tomorrow with the full scoop.
