Kraken Make Quick and Easy Work of Mediocre Oilers Team

Seattle was supposed to play against the Penguins last night but for the life of me I couldn't find the game on TV so I'm just going to assume that this game was cancelled... yup... nothing to see here.

Instead I am going to discuss how the Seattle Kraken absolutely embarrassed the Edmonton Oilers over the weekend. Oilers blogger Sean Maloughney and I had a bet on letting the winner write the post game writeup. He may have forgotten about it but I sure didn't.]

Seattle beats Edmonton 4-3 at home securing their third straight home win. Climate Pledge Arena was buzzing all night and hearing the roar of the crowd being engaged in the game was something that the Oilers are unaccustomed to. I've been in Rogers Place. Absolute snoozer of a crowd there unless there are playoff games.... something else the Oilers are unaccustomed to.

Getting back to the game, despite having some injuries on the blueline, the Oilers are still an impressive offensive team and the Kraken were going to need to pressure hard to stifle that group and that is exactly what they did. McDavid and Draisaitl did each record a couple of points and a goal apiece but none of the others lines came to play for the Oilers, something I hear has been an issue in Oil country for some time. The Oilers bottom six were tossed around like a fish at Pike's Market and the stink they left on the ice was pretty reminiscent of that too.

Alex Wennberg scored the game winner, breaking his eight game scoring slump. Have to hand it to the Oilers; one thing they excel at is being slump busters. Another thing the Oilers are good at I hear is letting former players score against them which is exactly what Adam Larsson did as well. When Adam Larsson is scoring more goals than most of your bottom six players, you know you have a big problem.

I would like to say Seattle came out strong right from the get go but that is difficult to saying knowing how awful Edmonton is at starting games on time. Within the first minute of the game Gourde got the Kraken on the board leaving Tippett looking more clueless than he usually looks.

If Seattle can figure out how to play with this kind of intensity on the road than I believe they could be a .500 team. Beating Edmonton was great but I would like to see Seattle bring this kind of thunder against some better teams... you know... teams that actually have a chance at doing something in the playoffs.

Hope you enjoy the read Sean.
