G37: Sharks @ Kraken: Winning At Home

Wins continue to be difficult to find for this Seattle Kraken team, however the one place the team has been successful is on home ice. While Seattle has a horrendous 4-11-2 record away from Climate Pledge Arena, they are at least somewhat respectable on home ice with a 7-12-2 record. The team has started this current five game home-stand off on the right foot with a 3-2 shootout win against the Blackhawks but things will only grow more difficult from here. Tonight the Kraken will take on their other aquatic rival in the Sharks who are trying to stay in a playoff position in the chaotic Pacific Division.

Last week it was announced that Jordan Eberle was selected to represent Seattle at the All-Star game. This will be the third time Eberle has been nominated to the All-Star game. Eberle was first selected in 2010/2011 as a rookie but could not attend due to injury. His first appearance came the following season with 76 points in 78 games, his career high.

Eberle, now 31 has posted 12 goals and 24 points through 36 games. While Eberle has come exactly as advertised I'm a little dissapointed that Jared McCann didn't get the nod. The young player has been a pleasant surprise all season and many times been the top line centre for Seattle. He leads the team in goals with 15.

While it's great that Seattle has a player going to the All Star game, I'm a little annoyed in how the game is set up. There are dozens of better players than Eberle who will not get to go to the All Star game because of this set up. While the All Star game really means nothing, if you're going to have one, why not just have the best players there, regardless of what team they are from?

Red hot for the Sharks right now is Timo Meier with 9 points in his last 5 games which includes a brilliant 5 goal performance against the LA Kings. Tomas Hertl also has 7 points in his last 5, though four of those were assists from Timo Meier. Regardless the Sharks have some potent weapons that are feeling it right now and Seattle needs to be sharp to avoid a bloodbath.

Tonight will also represent the first time Seattle fans get to see Karson Kuhlman play. Kuhlman, a 26 year old right shot centre played 19 games with the Bruins this season in which he put up 1 goal and 1 assist. No one should expect any type of offense from this player with those numbers but Kuhlman does excel at playing defensive hockey and the game becomes low event whenever he is on the ice. Low event hockey is something Seattle needs more of, especially when their goaltending has been the roller coaster that it has this season.

The home crowd has been good for Seattle, let's hope they can help the team pull out a win tonight.
