Despite the rash of injuries to start the season, the New Jersey Devils are at a respectable 8-5-3 with 19 pts after a big comeback win in Tampa Bay last Saturday. In addition, their AHL affiliate Utica Comets have started off their season with 13 straight victories. With the young talent blossoming in front of our eyes, the Devils are finally turning the corner as the long rebuild has started to pay dividends and giving Devils fans hope for the future.

The Devils were down 3-1 going into the start of the 3rd period, but scored 4 unanswered goals against the reigning Stanley Cup champions the past two seasons. They are truly the “comeback kids” and have demonstrated this in previous games in which they would be down early. What a stark contrast from previous seasons! In the past two seasons, the Devils would be down early before any of us can sit down to watch as the game had just started. By then, you knew the game was already lost. This Devils team does not quit which makes them exciting to watch. They have the talent and grit to get through adversity early in games and quickly strike back.

And how about those Utica Comets streaking with wins to start the AHL season?

As a Devils fan, Utica’s success is our success and watching those young kids, no matter who is in the lineup, play with confidence and know how to win. After a slow start, Nolan Foote is much playing better and it is fun watching the Taylor Hall trade 2020 that keeps on giving, courtesy of the Arizona Coyotes. Late bloomer prospect Nate Schnarr, who part of that deal, score two goals during last Friday’s contest against the Charlotte Checkers to help the team break the AHL record of the longest win streak to start the season. Kevin Dineen has this team on the right track and these your players are developing into winners.

You can feel the optimism!

Hughes practiced with the team on Monday with limited participation and wore a non-contact jersey.

How about those socks?
