A Jarry embarrassing third period

Remember those Penguins Devils games from the dead puck era? This was the opposite. The goals were plentiful and it the Penguins supposedly have the goaltender who can play the puck. We had a team jump out to a 6-0 lead and the final score was 7-6. It was the Penguins who were victorious, but it was way more interesting than it should have been.

Tristan Jarry went into a full blown meltdown. This was his worst start of the season whether you want to talk about his ability to stop the puck, taking a dumb penalty with his team already shorthanded, or fumbling the puck while trying to score a goal after already allowing five that period. It was a mess all around.

This means Jarry should have let in two, not six.

Perhaps Jarry was going for history. He earned an assist on Brian Dumoulin’s dump-in goal, he earned a penalty, maybe he was going for the goalie version of a Gordie Howe hat trick. He came up short there, but he did make history another way

You could probably find some bad plays from the Penguins players in front of Jarry, but the shots were 11-11 in the third period. They shouldn’t have been outscored 6-1.

Jarry’s assist earlier in the game was his fourth of the year and he is now leading the league. His four assists tie him with former Penguins Ryan Reaves, Ian Cole, and Dominik Kahun. He is tied with current teammate Zach Aston-Reese and Pierre-Olivier Joseph. It is more than former Penguins Brandon Sutter, Olli Maatta, and James Neal. Also higher than Colton Sceviour’s total this year.

The focus is on the meltdown, but the Penguins did score seven goals which is always an impressive feat. Everybody got in on the action

Well almost everybody

The Penguins had 15 different players find the scoresheet last night.

If you’re looking to watch all 13 goals, including Jeff Carter’s first as a Penguin, here they are.
