The Cats are back in action on home ice against the Detroit Red Wings after taking a 5-2 thumping from the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.

Look…the Jets are a top team in the league. And, yes, Florida is hampered by injuries to key players and had a number of AHLers in the lineup. But what could help this Panthers team out immensely would be consistency. As it stands, we don’t know what team will take the ice each night. This is nothing really new with Cats hockey, but why does it keep happening? If a playing scheme is in place, why is it that there’s this level of inconsistency? Of course there will always be those off nights, but the Cats seem to have more off nights than good ones.

And tonight will be another tough game when the 13-7-5 Wings come to Florida. There’s no denying Yzerman has some kind of magic that he works with teams because he has flipped this Detroit squad relatively quickly.

Loaded with talent and trying to find their way back to those powerhouse DET teams of the past, the Wings sit third in the Atlantic Division — three points ahead of the Panthers.

This is a must-win game against a divisional rival for the Panthers to build some confidence and prevent further sliding in the standings.
