The Ottawa Senators look to continue a perfect homestand tonight as they play their 4th straight game at home as part of their longest homestand of the season when the Dallas Stars make their only visit to the Canadian Tire Center.
Dallas enters tonight's game as one of only four teams that have yet to lose in regulation while leading the Western Conference, so the Sens' will have to bring their best effort of the season to date if they want to continue to build upon the teams' three game winning streak.
Expect Derick Brassard to replace the injured Josh Norris. DJ Smith will most likely start him on the 2nd line so that way the other three lines are untouched as they have developed solid chemistry through the first five games of the season. I don't expect any other lineup changes for Ottawa.
This will be a fun match-up when looking at both teams only 5 games into the season. Here are the teams ranking in the five statistical categories that most fans look at.
GF - Ottawa 4th, Dallas 5th
GAA - Dallas 1st, Ottawa 20th
PP - Dallas 4th, Ottawa 12th
PK - Dallas 6th, Ottawa 25th
Hits - Ottawa 4th, Dallas 29th
It was nice to see Ottawa not play down to their competition in beating Arizona 6-2 on Saturday afternoon, plus they only allowed one goal 5 on 5, after not allowing any against Washington the prior game. If the Sens' are going to compete against the top teams in the NHL, they will need to continue that trend 5 on 5.
Predictions for tonight's game? Does Ottawa rise to the challenge and play up to its competition? I would hope this is a bigger crowd than the last two home games of 14k and 15k respectively after selling out the home opener.
Comments, thoughts Sens' fans?!
Thanks for reading.
