Updated - Victor Mette has filed for salary arbitration. Thoughts Sens fans?

With NHL off season activity quieting down a lot over the last few days I thought I would take a look at the forward depth of the Ottawa Senators. It’s no secret that Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion is looking to add a center to his line-up and quite possibly a winger as well. The top targets for the Sens continue to be the names I have mentioned in this spot over the last week. Tomas Hertl, Adam Henrique, Nazem Kadri and yes, Ottawa has revisited in possibly acquiring Sean Monahan. The Sens looked into Monahan at the trade deadline and continue to “kick the tires” as they say with regards to Monahan.

Personally, I don’t see Ryan Strome as a fit in Ottawa, but again if management feels they don’t have to give up too much to acquire him, then anything is possible. With regards to Jack Eichel, there are too many questions marks surrounding Eichel. From questionable issues with him in the locker room, to his neck and his five years remaining on his contract, I don’t see this happening.

Naturally the center ice need could come from within. Do you move Nick Paul to play on one of the top two lines at center or do you wait another year before trying Tim Stutzle at center? Does Logan Brown have a future here? So many questions but very few answers until we see what management does prior to training camp when it comes to acquiring a center.

I do believe there is a strong chance that Dorion tries to acquire a right winger that has one or two years left on their contract. Or does he wait to see how the training camp battles play out?

Center depth -
Josh Norris
Shane Pinto
Colin White
Chris Tierney
Logan Brown(can play RW)

Left Wing -
Brady Tkachuk
Tim Stutzle
Nick Paul
Alex Formenton

Right Wing -
Drake Batherson
Connor Brown
Austin Watson

Many in the Sens organization are very pleased with the progress of Egor Sokolov and that his NHL trajectory is on the rise much sooner than most thought. Can Parker Kelly have a strong showing at camp after getting in his first NHL game last season? Management is very high on Ridly Greig as well but is at least a year away from seeing NHL action. Ottawa does have Clarke Bishop back for another year. Head coach DJ Smith really liked how Bishop fit in when called upon in the bottom six forwards. Plus everyone in the organization is excited to see 1st round draft pick Tyler Boucher as his first NHL camp next month.

Curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on how the forward group will look on opening night. Thanks for reading.
