The King Clancy Trophy is awarded yearly to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community. The last time a Habs player was the winner of this award was in 2007 when Saku Koivu received the trophy. In 2017, Jonathan Drouin has implicated himself with the Montreals Canadiens Children’s Foundation by renting the Jo and his Champions Suite which allows nearly 350 kids a year to experience a memorable night by watching a Habs game from a suite of the Bell Centre.

In yesterday’s media availability, Dominique Ducharme was asked if there were any plans for Drouin to return to the team and he once again reiterated that there were no plans to that effect. At this stage, it’s hard to imagine Drouin playing another game in the Canadiens uniform and while we’ve been asked not to speculate, the longer this goes on, the more people will think and talk about it. We can only hope that Drouin is getting better and that the best decisions will be taken in this case.

Today’s the last practice for the Canadiens in Brossard before they fly out to Toronto to start the series against the Leafs. There are no chance to report from practice aside from the fact that Caufield and Kotkaniemi weren’t part of the power play practice and that the man advantage units lined-up as follows:

Perry
Toffoli-Gallagher-Suzuki
Petry

Staal
Armia-Anderson-Tatar
Weber

Shea Weber has been taking shots today and it’s now pretty much a done deal that he will be back in the line-up for tomorrow’s game 1. While most experts are forecasting an easy series win for the Leafs, I believe the Habs will fight bravely and not be an easy prey. In fact, I expect a 7-game battle. It was confirmed last night that should the series last 6 games, the Canadiens will be able to welcome 2500 fans to the May 29th game in Montreal. I strongly believe that this will serve as extra motivation for the Tricolore, every single one of the new players from the offseason have mentioned the atmosphere at the Bell Centre as something they were looking forward to experience and they’ll want to do it. When all is said ans done though, I think they Leafs will take it in 7.

The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM tomorrow night and Dominique Ducharme has been clear, he will not hesitate to tinker with his line-up as necessary after the first game. In the meantime, the playoffs will finally kick off in Canada tonight when the Oilers take on the Jets at 9:00 PM, should be a good game to watch.
