Less than an hour ago, Nick Kypreos tweeted that Pierre-Luc Dubois has named Montreal as his preferred trade destination. What would the Blue Jackets want in return? According to him, it would take Nick Suzuki and other pieces. Romanov wouldn’t be included though having been deemed untouchable (anyone surprised after the Drouin-Sergachev trade?). So, the question now becomes, if you are Marc Bergevin, would you do it? That’s what I asked my followers a few minutes ago, we’ll know what they think tomorrow.
For now, though, here’s my take on it: a resounding NO. Why? Well, quite frankly, we’ve only just begun scratching the surface of what Nick Suzuki can do, why send him away and gamble that Dubois will be a better fit? In the bubble, we saw the chemistry between Suzuki and Drouin blossom and last night, we saw that Josh Anderson completes them (amazingly – dare I say it) well. Furthermore, Dubois comes with a big price tag that will be become huge the year after next. So if you want Dubois, you would need to send Suzuki and someone with a sizable contract that Columbus would want, who would they want? Drouin? I doubt it but even if they did, you just sent them a ready made duo right there…Or maybe another one of our centres? We spent years building a centre line, now is not the time to sacrifice 2 centres for 1, let’s be serious. Kotkaniemi and Evans struggled in the face-off circle last night and we’re still not sure if Poehling will be a centre in the NHL (Bergevin’s words not mine). Besides, having youngsters right now is what makes our cap situation manageable…

Il y a moins d’une heure, Nick Kypreos a envoyé un tweet disant que Pierre-Luc Dubois avait nommé Montréal comme sa destination de choix. Qu’est-ce que Columbus voudrait en retour? Toujours selon Kypreos, ça prendrait Nick Suzuki et d’autres morceaux. Il ne serait toutefois pas question de Romanov que Bergevin considèrerait comme intouchable (est-ce que quelqu’un est surpris après l’échange Drouin-Sergachev?). Alors, la question devient maintenant, si vous êtiez Marc Bergevin, feriez-vous cet échange? C’est la question que j’ai posé à mes abonnés il y a quelques minutes, on verra le résultat demain.
Pour l’instant, voici ce que j’en pense, pour moi c’est un NON sans équivoque. Pourquoi? Eh bien, à mon avis, nous n’avons encore rien vu avec Suzuki, nous n’avons que gratter la surface de son talent, pourquoi l’échanger et prendre le pari que Dubois fera mieux à Montréal? Dans la bulle, nous avons vu le début d’une belle chimie entre Suzuki et Dubois et hier soir, nous avons vu qu’Anderson les complète (extrêmement – est-ce que j’ose le dire?) bien. De plus, Dubois vient avec un gros contrat qui deviendra encore plus gros pour la saison 2022-2023. Donc, si on veut Dubois, il faudrait leur envoyer Suzuki et un joueur avec un gros contrat qui intéresserait Columbus, qui voudraient-ils? Drouin? J’en doute, mais même s’ils le voulaient, ce serait de leur envoyer un duo tout fait… Ou peut-être un de nos centres (Danault)? Nous avons passé des années à tenter de bâtir une ligne de centre digne de ce nom, devrait-on maintenant sacrifier 2 centres pour un seul? Soyons sérieux, hier Kotkaniemi et Evans ont éprouvé des difficultés dans le cercle des mises au jeu et on ne sait toujours pas si Poehling sera un centre dans le LNH (les mots de Bergevin, pas les miens). Enfin, avoir des jeunes dans notre alignement est ce qui nous permet de naviguer dans les eaux troubles de notre masse salariale présentement…
