Thursday, the Calgary Flames announced the re-signing of 28-year-old forward Brett Ritchie. Simply a move to meet the team's exposure requirements, Ritchie's deal is worth $900K for one year.

In 32 games last season, Ritchie average 11:22 of ice-time while recording four goals, four assists, 97 hits. His career-high point total took place in 2016-17 when he posted 24 points for the Dallas Stars.

When utilized correctly, Ritchie can be a reliable option for Calgary's bottom six. However, when asked to play on the team's top six, Ritchie was clearly out of his league.

Obviously, this is far from earth-shattering news. It is hard to imagine playing a major impact role for next season. I'm sure many would prefer him in the AHL or a 13th forward option.
