Well, we have a trade.

Though it was far from a flashy acquisition, the Calgary Flames landed Tyler Pitlick, a quality bottom-six forward, from the newly assembled Kraken. In return, Seattle received a 2022 fourth-round pick.

Spending last season with Arizona, Pitlick is a hard-hitting forward that plays with a ton of intensity. Defensively responsible and willing to leave it all out on the ice, he's sound defensively and can even put up a goal or two now and then.

Now 29-years-old, Pitlick has played seven seasons in the NHL for four different teams. He's recorded 47 goals, 37 assists and averaged 12:59 of ice-time in 286 games. His best season offensively was 2017-18 with Dallas, posting 14 goals and 13 assists.

Personally, I love this acquisition for the Flames. Surrendering a fourth-rounder in next year's draft is nothing for someone who should fit perfectly in Darryl Sutter's system. As we all know, hockey is not all about the star-studded talent. You need to have players that slot into a role and execute particular aspects of the games consistently. That is what Calgary gets in Tyler Pitlick.

As one could imagine, Pitlick's contract is far from a whopper. With just one more year on his current deal, a $1.75 million cap hit is an easy pill for the Flames to swallow. Additionally, if the Flames fall out of contention next season, he should receive some interest at the trade deadline.

Of course, Brad Treliving still has plenty of work to do over the next few days. Still, it is nice to see him already active, bringing in a quality piece for his bottom-six forward group.
