*update - Savard is making his way to Tampa, via Detroit. CBJ gets a first 2021 and third 2022 round pick, Detroit sends Lashoff to TB and gets a 4th for helping with the transaction. CBJ retained half of Savard, Detroit then retained half on the remaining and sent to TB

Detroit so far - 13-23-6
14 games remaining
My prediction from January - 19 wins
Current place - 28th
First round pick without lottery win - between 4 and 6

*Detroit will have to go 6-8, 6-4-4, etc down the stretch. Essentially sub 500 at this point. I actually feel like I’ll end up being close on total wins.

Patrick Nemeth has rejoined a former team, being traded to Colorado for a 2020 4th round pick. Around the league, more players continue to trickle to the waiver wire as teams try to maximize space for any last minute moves. With Detroit heading to Carolina, are any Red Wings players packing extra socks in anticipation of an extended stay?

My January 10th blog in predicting Detroit’s season so far has had its ups and downs. Detroit will face Carolina tonight for the 6th time. I’d predicted that the Hurricanes would win 6 of 8. Detroit has already won 2 of the 5, and could eclipse that prediction with a win in the final 3 games.

Carolina is top dog right now, and could be looking to add a couple pieces. Unlike many contenders, Waddell currently has 9.2 million in cap space and will have just above 10 million on Monday’s trade deadline. Ownership in Carolina, however, is already legendary for frugality. Along with Arizona’s owner, they are some of the rare hockey owners that openly complain about the losses their franchises are dealing with.

With 14 games left in the season and only 2 days to the trade deadline, this is the last game Detroit will play before the April 12th cutoff. If there are any last minute holdouts, it’s probably safe to guess that there is at least interest in whichever player will dine upon arena hotdogs in their game day suit. The game itself is almost of secondary importance at this point.

For what it’s worth, I expect Carolina to win tonight. Detroit’s wins have both come on the second game of back to backs. The Wings may also be a little rattled, depending on who may be held out or rumored to be moved. This isn’t a fun situation, especially on the road. Walking to the other side of the building with your suitcase, getting a place to live, and asking your family to pack for you over the coarse of 48 hours is fairly stressful. I honestly wonder if Yzerman advised anyone to pack for an extended stay, just as a courtesy.

Just to recap, here are the players I think may be moved by Monday:

The teams listed are just my personal thoughts. While I’m not sure that anyone is the top fit for Carolina, Staal may be of interest as he is on an expiring deal and provides defensive depth.

Helm - Winnipeg. That’s his hometown. It would be fun for him and the family

Glendening - Boston, Washington, Toronto - Boston has still got some punch, and I think Glenny would fit in well there. Washington as well. If a center gets hurt, Glenny could have a chance to dish to some very potent scorers. As for Toronto, Hyman is a wolverine. They’re similar players and I think would get along well. Vegas would also be a good fit

Staal - Montreal. I think they have something special there, and he and Eric could live together (probably).

Bernier (if healthy) - Washington or Colorado - I think he’d fit in well in either spot.

Let me know who you want to see go where! (And Hell, MI is not an option, they don’t even have a hockey team)
