If you missed the info on Bally sports take a quick look. Interesting goings on.

Game Summary:

45-22. Detroit was outshot 45 to 22. Ville Husso should not be paying for his dinner for the rest of this trip. Edmonton brought it, and with the best player (if not the best 2) in the league. This felt every bit like a stolen game, but the W is still nice to get.

An interesting comment was made early on during a Wing’s power play. Edmonton’s forwards on the PK don’t block shots. The forwards are always ready to transition, regardless of situation. And their transitions are devastating and fast. Husso absolutely bailed out his team tonight

As you look at this Edmonton team, they have everything up front you could ask for. The longer McDavid and Draisaitl stay in the league, the luckier you feel if you get the better of that team. The two just bring another level.

On the Detroit side, Larkin made some good plays. Nice goal and a faceoff win that led to another. Fabbri scored a beauty and collected an assist. Seider scored one of the more bizarre goals I’ve seen. Just seemed like a “get it to the net and let the guys dig at it” type back hand but it went in.

Maatta is getting noticed. Hronek made a big stop on a 2 on 1 in overtime. Seider was able to frustrate McDavid a bit. Still, without Husso’s fantastic play this win doesn’t happen. Matt Shepard used to say the word “great” is so overused that it’s lost its meaning. McDavid is a great player. Detroit has very good players and is making forward strides.

Watching Bertuzzi, you can see him trying to get everything back in sync. When he’s blocking or battling, can look very good. When it’s a moving play, he’s missing the mark a little. That’s going to happen when you break both wrists in one year.

I don’t think Detroit is going to be bragging about this win. Celebrate it, of course! Celebrate your goalie, absolutely! You don’t celebrate getting out shot more than 2 to 1 as a team. And still, these wins mean something. Perron’s shootout goal should be seen by the younger players. It felt a little old school and it worked. McDavid’s shootout goal looked like he made the circuit behind all 3 pipes. I don’t know if you can teach that.

I like what Detroit does when they are in position, they are situationally aware and smartly stay away from retaliating. This team is growing up. There are gaps, but there are also big steps being made by some young players. My hope for this 4 game trip was 5 points. 2 wins and an OTL (or shootout loss). 2 games left and they just need to grab one more point.

Again, a game that was a gift from Husso in many ways. Going 2 for 2 on the power play didn’t hurt. Edmonton going 1 for 3 is just a little above their season average. They have some serious firepower out there. I hope the guys can enjoy this one for a minute before it’s right back to the grind.

First Period Detroit goals:

At 4:17 Larkin scored his 21st on a tic-tac-goal during a power play. The Captain was behind the blue line (where the last captain used to hang out) and just swung the puck around and in. Assists from Fabbri and Perron. Seider made a beauty of a pass to start that sequence at the blue line

Wings score again with 2:41 left. Copp won a faceoff at the lower left dot back to Mo, who skated down to the blue line and sent a harmless looking back hand shot that you heard hit the pipe and go in. Guarantee the goalie wants it back, but kudos to Mo for getting the puck to the net. Looks like a slight deflection, still not sure off of who.

Bertuzzi continues to throw himself in front of pucks. A tip of the hat for a nice intercept by Zadina in this one as well.

Shots:11-7 EDM
Score:2-0 DET

2nd Period Detroit goals:

At 1:26 the Oilers got on the board. 2-1 Detroit

At 9:06 Fabbri restored the 2 goal lead with a nice top shelf wrist shot using an oilers Dman as a partial screen. Perron and Hronek assisting.

Oilers score again a couple minutes later, 3-2 Detroit

At 6:12 Larkin won a faceoff after EDM iced the puck. The puck went straight toward Maatta who took a couple strides and leaned into a nice slap shot and restored the 2 goal lead. 4-2 Detroit

Shots: 26-14 EDM
Score: 4-2 DET

Third Period Detroit goals:
No third period Detroit goals

At 3:26 Oilers get back within 1 on a power play tally. 4-3 DET

OIlers tie it up at 5:27. 4-4
