Traverse City Prospect Tournament rosters have been released, and tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. EST Detroit hopefuls will take the ice. Speculation will begin to take shape as an almost Christmas themed battle with Dallas will see a conglomerate of red and green jerseys do battle in front of their respective GMs (plenty of former Detroit management and players in those seats.)
This is the first step for some players to build a case for wearing either a winged wheel or a mythical flying beast at the season opener. It’s also a chance for fans to get a better idea of what the system has brought in and what development has been implemented. A lot more than a potential banner rides on these games. It may become the gateway that turns a lifelong dream into a career.
Speaking of dreams, a change in the air seems to have made some players more open to a longer stay in Calgary including highly sought after defenseman Noah Hanifin. Whether the reality of a much more difficult market or an increase in potential compensation, something has turned for the flames roster.
Some agents are having very honest conversations with clientele about what the market was like this year and what it could be like next summer. The NHL may well stand for “Not Here Long” and the possibility of a weak market goes a long way with players as they become more and more aware of fiscal uncertainties.
Scouts, Agents, Managers and staff will be back at what they love very soon. Pucks are being frozen, sticks are being taped and players are very aware that their performance won’t be limited to the small capacity arena in Traverse City. All over the hockey world fans will be tuning in and ready with a “hot take” as soon as the puck drops.
