Game Summary:

Whether it was personnel, effort, preparedness or a combination Detroit iced an absolutely awful game against a much hungrier Panther team that has skill and can make you pay. Detroit didn’t respect their opponent and got schooled.

It was painfully obvious that Lindstrom and Hagg were not ready for this. Ned didn’t get much help from his team tonight and after giving them a chance to stay in during the first the wheels came off in the second. Yes, one goal had Lindstrom keeping his goalie from making a save. Another saw Rasmussen give Tkachuk so much time and space that it was embarrassing.

Top to bottom, it was hard to find a lot of good outside of Berggren’s goal. Florida just devoured the team. In a different day and age there would be some screaming in the locker room after this one. Instead it’s likely going to be crickets followed by awkward interviews.

Ned can’t get a break right now (and yes, you make your own breaks in sports) I just don’t want to hear that anything outside of a maintenance day led to the defensive changes. Again, nobody is going to walk out of this one with a pat on the back. It was a reminder of why Yzerman needs to continue to upgrade the roster and the team needs to look at this and respond.

I don’t know if a trade is coming in net, but with a conditioning stint coming to an end Ned may be the odd man out right now. Who knows what is going on internally, but this was as painful a game to watch as the Tampa Bay game was exciting. I’d said before this swing that a split in Florida would be a good thing, a step forward. It is still good, but to see the team just fold was painful. Kudos to the Panthers. They were cycling, shooting, making plays and making it look easy. By far the better team in this one.

First Period Detroit Goals:
No first period Detroit goals

Florida badly outplaying Detroit finally broken through with 1:55 left during a line change. Ned has been bailing the team out. Lindstrom/Hagg just look lost.

Shots on goal: 15-5 FLA
Score: 1-0 FLA

Second Period Detroit Goals:

2 goals for Florida in less than 3 minutes and Detroit is in a 3-0 hole

Detroit finally gets on the board as their power play expired with a tally by Berggren who rushed to the crease and tapped in a rebound. Raymond took initial shot, Copp took another swipe that caused the rebound to bounce to the eventual goal scorer.

With just over 5 minutes left Panthers restore 3 goal lead. Lindstrom hindered his own goalie. Then about 40 seconds later Tkachuk scored as Rasmussen was in a position to stop the shot but didn’t.

Shots on goal: 34-15
Score: 5-1

Third Period Detroit Goals:

No Third Period Detroit Goals.

Shots on goal: 41-20 FLA
Score: 5-1 FLA
